Do I need both a Victron charge controller and Smart Shunt?

IMO temp sensor is more important for FLA than LiFePo4, as charging rate and absorbtion time for FLA is scaled for temp.

For LiFePo4 you are only concerned about low temp charging protection, which your BMS should already protect against.
I don't believe the 200 Ah CHINS non smart/no bluetooth LiFePO4 battery has low temp charge protection or anything else special inside of it other than a high and low charge cutoff. Hit the high one once when a MPPT SCC went bad and sent what we believe was panel voltage to the battery bus bar. No fuses blew - just turned off battery once it got too high of SOC. Story for another day.

A good reason to avoid cheap batteries/BMS with missing vital features.

Learning this way after the fact. I've been told that a few times which is why I hesitate to even mention it because I don't like getting it rubbed in my face. Plus as mentioned where I live it goes from 50 to 90 degrees F maximum, so not sure if battery will overheat or get too cold in this environment. But maybe we are talking about a runaway situation where the battery has an internal short or something fries in the BMS and the battery goes way up in temperature. By that time, it would take out the inverter and all the other victron stuff, maybe the pool heater and pump and some of the nearby panels.

My smartshunt 500 amp does not have a connection for the temp sensor.
I think they put those connections on the battery monitor - the round display thing that I do not have.
I don't think there is a temp sensor on the MPPT either.
OH looks like I am wrong - the aux port - usually used for a 2nd battery - can be a temp sensor:

3.5.3

For use to monitor the temperature of a battery via the (not included) Temperature sensor for BMV-712 Smart and BMV-702 . This temperature sensor needs to be purchased separately. Be aware that this is a different temperature sensor than the temperature sensors that are included with Victron inverter/chargers and some battery chargers.

part you need:

list is on this page:
Second from the right.
Confusing because named: "Temp. Sensor for BMV" but under products supported it reads, "Battery Monitors with Temp Support - eg BMV-702 & 712, SmartShunt & VE.Bus Smart Dongle"
Victron part number is ASS000100000
Link to amazon USA page that sells it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M06654A
Just bought this.

You can set on the smart model .

See attack files.
Its on Dutch but you see how the temp sensor is connect on the smart shunt

For reference the 300a smart shunt is only $70 regular price.. enough for some
