Anybody have experience with EVE304 cells from Docan? I'm thinking of buying a set for a 12V sailboat installation and am looking for good quality (Grade A or whatever than means from the different vendors).

Thanks!

Docan only sells grade B, that being said people have good success with their CATL 280 that are testing to near 300AH. Actually its beating most grade A 280s in capacity test (for now at least).

Grade A = manufacturer test report, there is a big thread you can read up on: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/are-we-all-getting-grade-b-cells.39156/

Here are grade A sellers in USA:

currentconnected grade A calb 230
18650batterystore grade A EVE 105, EVE 280K
sunfunkits grade A EVE 304

Most people are buying the 280s because cost / WH is good, however, if buying 280K even if grade A you will probably have a hard time getting 280AH, it is only something that affects this cell and not the 280N or the 304.

But yeah, unless they have a manufacturer test report (that lists each cell individually) they are grade B, works for most people but you can run into issues with bad cells so considering buying a spare one just in case.

Can you expand on the statement that Docan only sells grade B. I don't think that's accurate. At least I don't think so. I Just picked up a couple of their EVE 105ah cells. All specs and indications appear to be Grade A but I would like to hear more.

Thanks

If you are not going to spend the time to research then just go buy whatever you feel like, that thread I linked to explains everything in depth. This is the problem with DIY 90% of the people don't want to do any research...

Helpful comment based on "research" form reading another thread on the internet. Nice.

sunfunkits is certainly NOT selling any grade a cells....

They'll be fine. Build your battery and live happily ever after. :)

Supposedly 'grade a' are the ones that test out the highest with a lab report and are sold to the EV industry. Ones that are almost as good are sold out through the resellers. They're still good batteries, and still have valid QR codes etched on them.

Install with a good bms, a lot of Overkill users, and a compatible charging system, and you'll be satisfied. Don't try to push them to the extreme, build in some extra capacity and redundancy.

Docan has better batteries for cheaper than sunfun. Contact either Amy and place your order from Houston. (y)

Example of grade A:

Example of grade B:

Grade A = comes with test report form the manufacturer
Grade B = does not come with test report, has fake QR codes or or other STUFF THAT DOCAN has BEEN DOING. Despite this the CATL 280s they are selling are quite nice for the price...

Vendors selling grade A will give you a copy of the manufacturer test report / cell, vendors that do not will either state they are grade B or make up bs. Generally vendors in the USA/UK state this clearly, but literally all the alibabab/aliexpress sellers (with the exception of Luyuan) will not tell you the truth.

People on this forum are highly opinionated so don't take any one's word and do your own research, finally you can contact EVE directly on there Alibaba channel and ask them: https://evebatteryglobal.en.alibaba.com/?spm=a2700.7735675.0.0.32425d7cSjSnsA they can verify what is or is not true.

Finally understand the difference between Grade A vs Grade B does not mean grade B is bad. However, the chances of you getting bad cells with grade B is much higher than grade A, that being said most people do just fine with grade B but do require them to manually sort/match and provide some extra care for them.

I own grade B from XUba and Basen and Grade A from Luyuan. I am happiest with my Luyuan purchase the most overall.

as to sunfunkits and their grade a claims, this should be a very interesting topic to read up on :

I ended up getting "Grade B" cells from 18650. All tested out at 315 Ah with my little fan tester running at a 20A load. So far so good!

Just ended testing EVE304 from Docan.
After reading a lot of positive feedback about Docan power on this forum, decided to order a test batch from them.
They conviniently even had 304Ah at EU stock in Poland.
Daisy Efest agent was very pleasant and informative with fast reponses.
I clearly exaplined my concern that I expect a minimum of 304Ah from each cell and she literally guaranteed that, with just a weird exception that cells should be tested with EBC 40L tester.
paid $627.21 USD

The goods came very fast as promissed. Very well packaged. First time I saw that foam was thorougly glued around the cells.
Cell voltage were pretty close with just one slightly off and IR 0,3-0,6 (Though I consider these measurements pretty pointless)

I always do a quick test on 4 cell packs with calibrated iCharger X8.
1)top balance the pack at 3,6 volts
2)discharge with regenerative method at 30amps down to 2,5v the first cell reaches (other battery takes the power in)
So at 2,5v it cut off at 302.84AH for the weakest cell
And others hold better.
~310 ~311 ~306

As a result the pack is crippled by one weak cell.

Shared the results with the agent and received classic numerous excuses that cells are from the same batch and they measure voltage and resistance before sending. And if I order a big batch directly from China they can test it for me thorougly.
At least she wasn't feeding me nonsense as our previous seller who was stating that supplied 280Ah that measured just 230ah will grow capacity with more cycle charges :)

Will just keep the pack of course
Definitely not buying from them again, considering I get the same gamble as from other sellers but at higher cost.
there were no even hints of trying to resolve it and even assume there is a probability of manufacturing defects. They acted as they knew it could happen and were just spewing out prepared excuses.

as @TomC4306 already stated, how can anyone take this seriously ?
you took a hobby charger, you're missing 1,5 ah, and you are crippled ?

dear lord, you really do need to get yourself out more

So one cell was less than 0.5% below claimed capacity when charged to 3.6v?
Wow I'd be thrilled.

Then you met capacity, 3864 / 4 = 966 WH
the 304 is a 966 WH Cell

For grade B if you meet either the AH or WH you should accept. Grade A 304 is going for 1.5x-2x the price.
