EBC-A40L doesn't connect to laptop

Hello all, I have just received the tester. It works because as I'm writing it is discharging a cell as I configured on the testers display. Before I started this test I was trying to connect it to my laptop. This is what I did:

- downloaded the software from this forum
- installed software and tried connecting

Figured out the com port which is 3 according to device manager. Now I should be able to connect with comm Setting in the ZKETEch software but it doesn't show a com port number.

- Decided to install the USB to TTL driver that came in the software package.

Same result.

- Restarted laptop

Same result.

Now what should I do next?

Edit: I also used "search comm port" in the tools menu without effort.

User manual, page 3, step 3 indicates:

"(3) Click on “Connect” button to build connection between the computer and the tester (the
tester should stop operation and stay at test interface)."

I interpret that to mean that you can only connect when the tester is idle.
