I’ve been watching this battery go on sale for a while now but this is the lowest I’ve seen it at $819.99. I think it was cheaper back in October but not sure.

It was $720 back in October, for the 1st generation. There were issues on that generation (well documented in the other thread), but EW has made good on those, at least by me. There are some still waiting on a replacement BMS &/or cable. The support from Eco-Worthy is ongoing on the original thread.

Didn’t know they were that cheap.

I haven't seen anything official on buy 6 and get a rack but the 4 unit rack is wonderful.

I wanted to keep the original thread going and we have an engineer from E-W also joining in. Plus I wan't to see how long we keep the old thread going.

I am one of those waiting on the replacement bms (x8) and have not heard of anyone actually receiving one or notification that one is even in the mail. So at this point, they have not done right by me on THAT issue yet. Otherwise I am happy with them and looking forward to getting the latest version to play with, when they are available.

I have same issue with running solar assistant and inverter off the quad units. It looks like a single master BMS should be able to solve the issue. I was able to program all batteries from #1 but I had to unplug the inverter from the RS485 to do it. Inverters don't take CAN. I don't recall if you can see all batteries via can to program. I doubt it.

I think this might be confusing to readers not familiar with the "other" thread, but I will answer here anyhow. My 18kpv has been running CAN to the 1st gen rack battery since day one. The inverter is reporting 1300ah (all 13 of my rack batteries). My masters 485 port is connected to the quad adapter for SA, but I usually leave SA conconfigured to my JK bank (not visible to inverter) through a single 485 adapter instead. Both adapters are always plugged into the RPi, so it takes only a few seconds to change to the JBJ mode in SA if I wanted to look at those, but I only have the master wired up for now to see that it does work. I would rather go use the laptop in the garage to look at the rest of them, than wire up all 13 of the 485 ports. But that will change if the 3rd gen can send all data from 232 port.

I might have been wrong about the free rack. I will wait and see.
They don't have the new 6 place racks with wheels available yet and I was told they will not be given away. Since you bought at least 4 they might give you a 4 place rack for free (when they get more of them) if you ask them for one. The other 2 can sit on top of the rack. In the future, it wouldn't surprise me if they had a 6+rack special sale, because that would be a good incentive to sell 6 at a time.

Has anybody received these Gen2 batteries yet? How would I determine whether they are Gen1 or Gen2? I ordered the last quad pack with rack in mid-December. Eco-Worthy accepted the order, but then told me they were out but would ship to me by January 10, giving me a chance to cancel if I wanted. I told them that that was no problem and to go ahead and ship in January. Well, the four packages are on the way, and FedEx, willingly, should arrive tomorrow.

I read most of the original thread, and I appreciate your and others' contributions there. Still, that thread now has over 1300 posts, and in particular for noobs (like me;)), it is really hard to find information and the latest status on some of the topics discussed. This will likely get even worse if we now have effectively two (somewhat) different batteries, with potentially different components (e.g. BMS) and different behaviors in this same thread. Therefore, I would humbly like to suggest starting a new thread for the Gen 2 - maybe this one here is a suitable starting point. If we give notice in the original thread, interested people, and hopefully E-W can join here and contribute.

Gen 2 would just be an extension of the other one. Free country (still) but ill be positing most of my traffic on the original. nice to see it grow like a tree that was planted ;)

I noticed in Will's latest review that these batteries don't have the expansion relief ridges on the battery bus bars. Has this been corrected in the new version of these, or is the new version what Will was testing? Wondering if the lack of that would make these a bad choice for use in an RV.

I believe your answer is on the thread below. It was a user error where he had the lug backwards.

Will tested the new version. You can tell by the small blue logo on the faceplate and the double balance leads on the cell bus bar between cells 8 and 9

To answer your question, No, there are not "relief ridges" on the bus bars between cells. The cells are very firmly mounted and compressed, and probably wouldn't move anyway. You're using 48V Rack Batteries in your RV?

I wouldn't recommend this battery in an RV; I'd use a plastic-case, sealed battery that's more rugged, with better shock absorption.
Check out RoyPow or Epoch.

I'd be mounting them inside the RV, so don't really need them to be waterproof, though yeah, would be better to have some vibration isolation. I'd like a battery that integrates well with a Multiplus II without having to add a shunt, but ~$700 for 1536wh just seems a bit too high a price to pay today.

I've had 2 EG4 LL 12V's in an RV on some horrid roads. They're fine. Sig Solar cells an RV kit with their rack mount batteries. And I'm waiting for 3 of one of these variants of these inexpensive 48V rack mounts to be delivered, to upgrade to 48V in the RV. I tend to think it's a good application for welded bus bars, less chance of something coming loose. If it's a bad weld, will find out pretty quick.

I do recommend having a SmartShunt in a Victron setup. It's an extra check on your remaining capacity and they're pretty accurate.

I would think the CAN could be used on this battery though instead of a SmartShunt?
