EG4 12K/18K/FlexBoss Firmware FAAB-2122 (Now replaced by FAAB-2525)

Documentation is a REAL PITA, its one of the most important things and honestly done at the last minute by a VERY small group. I was shocked when I found out that my company had 3 people for my business unit that handled all of our docs, with one of our docs over 8k pages.

I would LOVE for a doc that is just about firmware upgrades and I think there SHOULD be a dark start doc, hell I have no idea how I would dark start my setup if I needed to :/ (great thanks for bring up something I have to now think about)

That problem I could see with a doc might not fit everyones setup, so you'll leave yourself with someone going "OMG EG4 SUCKS because A-B-C" But I think they could provide something that says "With a Gridboss and EG4 Inverter (Flexboss / #k) and Close loop Batteries" here's how to do a dark start then maybe one that calls out if you do NOT have a Gridboss. Someone with smart port connected solar would be different as I believe they need power before it starts to make power, but since this isn't something I have I wouldn't even claim to know that flow chart.

Either way, if YOU have a setup that works I would document it for yourself. One thing that I always do is based off i THINK Will's advice is to always start with the Inverters battery breaker ON before flipping the battery breakers on as it limits the inrush current. (If my memory is right)

When I'm done with my current upgrade I will be creating a run book for everything that I can think of, plus a quick guide that my wife or kids can follow if I'm out of town. Makes life easy when problems come up and it's a LOT easier to follow instructions you've made yourself.

I looked in the Maintenance section and did not see a "reboot / restart" setting for the Inverter or Gridboss. If there is an official steps could you provide that documentation?
2nd button in application setting of the web portal or mobile app, or there is a restart option on the display.

Hit the manual bypass on the Gridboss and then push the updates, does not matter which order.
When all done and running, restart again one more time.
Assuming switching the GB to manual Bypass will disconnect all loads from my house momentarily, correct?
And can I update everything in the evening when no energy is produced by the panels...?

OH yeah... RIGHT there under RSD... :\ - In my stupid defense I was thinking Gridboss but you're not a mind reader nor did I question the Gridboss.

That is also my concern… if Quattro or someone else can clarify on this

If I flip the 90 amp breaker off on my grid boss, even if I’m 100% running on grid power I still drop power for more than a second (more like two seconds) before the grid boss realizes what’s going on , kicks in again, and grabs all the loads

Is that expected behavior if we drop either power from the inverter or communication from the inverter to the grid boss?

I noticed this behavior after the upgrade as well and I don’t know if that’s expected

Try putting the Flexboss into standby rather than flicking the breaker.
This didn’t work for me, maybe because I set to standby then flipped the 90A breaker.

I think best practice is to find a 15 minute window when you can afford a flicker and upgrade flexboss first. Sometimes it doesn’t flicker.

Anyone try the weekly scheduling settings yet? I have, and let me tell you about it...... It doesn't work.

I want this M-F because this is the best I could kludge to address my TOU and net metering:

This is what the app gives me:

Yes I followed the directions in this whitepaper to a "T":
EG4 techs were able to get the scheduler working for me. It seems voltage cutoffs need to be set even if you only use SOC for battery controls.

That literally makes zero sense from a logical programming standpoint

I expected that everything would need to be powered off - so I waited to have an opportunity where I was the only one at home and could crash the house power without bothering anyone.

I have seen where the GridBoss smart breakers ALSO need EVERYTHING set - even if you are operating in TIME ONLY and have the "always on" option set.... You STILL have to have the SoC set or the smart breakers will not enable if you are outside of the acceptable SoC range.
That image of the Luxpower programmers.... is very accurate.

This also fixed my problem with the scheduler. I've attached the screenshot of EG4's instructions from their DM.

Their DM instructions about needing to set BOTH voltage and SOC parameters is contrary to the regular (non-weekly) schedule settings, which is confusing and not intuitive.

Also, these instructions aren't in the "Weekly Settings Guide" whitepaper on the EG4 website.

I don't understand why this type of information needs to be provided in DMs. EG4, if you're paying attention, please update the whitepaper to include these specific instructions, and just post these types of tips in forum responses. Customer frustration could have been avoided with accurate documentation.

@EG4 Callie what's the process to test the beta FB21 firmware with the new fan profile? who should I contact?

And if not available, how long are we looking at before you release it to the public?
