EG4 18KPV Battery Inverter combo "Not" UL approved

Hi! I'm so sorry if you haven't received a response from us! I'd like to look into this to ensure we are receiving your correspondence! I have sent you a DM to request your contact info. It looks like EG4 has commented above with the documentation you needed but if there is anything else we can assist with, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly at engagement@signaturesolar.com
I sent the email to tech support (Jaquelin) on 01-05-2025 so she would have it first thing 01-06-2025 and as of 1910 hrs. on 01062025 still no response. But I understand why. There is no issue other than I was sold product configuration that is not UL compliant. I also sent a request to EG4 as well and still no response. The fact is that I am very disappointed in this matter. And still trying to sort it out.

Note: UL 9540 is max 20kWh per rack. 4 batteries in a rack exceed 20 kWh, so max is 3 in a rack.

There is also a limit of 40kWh in a location, so max is 7 batteries in one location.

Note 2: there are 3 "locations " in a house: inside, garage, outside.

If AHJ is being sticklers, ...

Keep in mind that Not UL certified doesn't mean not safe. IMHO they're being overly cautious for all the potential energy. Plus, if you keep the numbers lower, it keeps you dependent. I'm glad I live somewhere that doesn't have this inspection nonsense.

To meet UL9540 compliance, the 18kPV system can be paired with up to 12 LL batteries.

For more details, please refer to the last page of the document below.

Thank you for your insight and information. More food for thought. Just wonering how EG4 has UL rating by pairing the 12 batteries. Would the racks need to be seperated by 3' with a max of 20kw per rack?

Ul9540 unit tested inverter and battery combinations are exempt from the 20kWh capacity and three feet spacing requirements, as they are tested per the manufacturers install instructions. In this case testing was done with two stacks of 6 rack mounts. With the power pro 280ah they tested up to three of them.

There was a case in the past where sig solar sent out eg4 rack batteries to a memeber without the ul mark. They ended up having to have them all shipped back (14 I think) and new correctly marked ones sent out.

So there is certainly the precedent where Sig Solar fix UL listing related mistakes due to errors that are obviously on their end.

Hi Jess, just a suggestion from a customer service perspective, can you please make sure all your call center and support folks know about the ul9540 battery config limits (12 rackmount or three 280ah)? This problem should be easily avoidable with some quick training on your folks end.

Your state is listed as NEC2023, so battery limits are applied state wide unless your AHJ specifically has listed otherwise

Hey! Thank you, and yes, I will certainly take this to the team!

Thank you Bruce. At this point, having submitted the non compliant ul combination to our AHJ, the financial investment made to Signature Solar and clearly my ignorance I am very gun shy. My question to you is , is there documentation showing that the paired items with the ul listing are exempt from the criteria that "DIYRich" stated? Thanks again for your insight and direction.

Seems to me you are overcomplicating things .
Remove a couple of batteries, have the inspector give approval, reinstall batteries is all that is needed

I would submit the v1.1 detailed configuration document to your AHJ and adjust your system sizing at inspection to reflect the max on that (two racks of six). Whether you choose to have sig solar refund you for the six unused units or choose to add them back in post inspection is in your hands.

Thank you Bruce, once given the opportunity to re submit thats the direction we will take . It is refreshing to see that folks like you are willing to be part of the solution and not just spewing garbage"seems to me" opionions. Thanks again.

Hi again!

I’ve been looking into this for you and spoke with Jacqueline. We have a record of just one call with you, during which it seems she answered all your questions. However, there wasn’t any mention of this topic during that conversation. Is it possible you reached out using a different email address or phone number? Or maybe have been reaching out to EG4?

We also haven’t received any forms submitted from our website. I’m wondering if there might be an issue with the submissions going through correctly. If you’d like to respond to my DM, I’d be happy to dive deeper into this to ensure we can connect with you seamlessly and address any potential correspondence issues. 😊

Hi Jess,

I’m pretty sure you have me mistaken with someone else. Prior to purchasing 2 18KPV Inverters, 18 Batteries, 3 Racks, 30 Panels along with countless accessories we had an extensive dialogue opened with your staff. This was in sales, and with the technical department.

Here is the email you are so concerned about:

Subject: Re: Signature Solar Tech Support -UL9540 certification for PV18K and LL battery configuration

But again please keep in mind I really do not care about the inner workings there and how we "still" have not had a reply which is inexcusable. I only care about the very significant investment made and where to go from here.

Just forget about the fact we have had "NO" response and look forward to see if now maybe we can get some guidance.

Please contact EG4 we have a solution for this.

The solution is to implement one Energy Storage System (ESS) equipped with one inverter and 12 batteries, alongside a second ESS consisting of one inverter and 6 batteries. It’s essential to ensure that the two ESS are separated by a distance of 3 feet.
