Hi All,

I was all set to pull the trigger on an EG4 6000xp for my newly built off grid cabin in Ontario, but I'm having trouble interpreting the rules regarding certification.

As it is a new build, every little thing will be inspected and it doesn't look like the 6000xp meets the certifications required for installation? There is no grid hookup and there will be none in the future. The only certification it has listed is UL1741, but no CSA approval. Does this mean that it cannot be legally installed in Canada?

I recall the LUX version of the 6kW unit is CSA and UL1741, not sure about the EG4 version.
Also the "Mapleleaf" rebranded unit that Solar Parts Store sells is CSA certified.

Hi, Has ESA approved your design yet? I'm curious because I'm too looking in to building a system for my house in Ontario, The ESA bulletins mention that Complex systems (i.e a system built of various parts) needs a field evaluation using SPE-1000 code. The invert is also the EG4 6000 XP but my batteries are just generic Lithium batteries. Look to be UL1973 but the overall system isn't UL9540.

Are your batteries or is your system UL9540 certified? Or did you do the field evaluation?
