Hi, so I have two EG4 6500ex inverters and I followed SS's guide on updating. DSP firmware update went through perfectly, said 100% successful but then after inverter restarted the display no longer works and inverter shuts off in less than one minute. The second inverter, the one not yet updated, will turn on and display does work but it ALSO shuts off NOW in less than one minute. Prior to updating DSP on first inverter both inverters stayed on and ran fine with no errors.

Currently just hooked up to EG4 batteries with all load and PV off.

I contacted SS solar originally because the cable wasn't working but found out that it was a driver issue and an older laptop actually immediately downloaded correct drivers, so got past that. They have been responsive and I am sure they will get back to me. I just wanted to check if anyone else has had and resolved this issue. I am concerned it bricked the display or something crazy. I hope not :/

Thanks!

Try re-updating the firmware again. Sounds like something might not have taken.

Usually the system will shut down within 60 seconds or so if inverter communication fails between a split phase pair.

Do you still have your communication cables connected between the inverters?

Did you have battery communication set up prior to the update? If so, is the battery comms cable still connected?

That makes sense as far as what its doing. Yes comm cables are still connected between them. Battery comm seemed fine prior, connected to first inverter.

nothing has been changed that’s why it is perplexing.

If you switch the displays between the two inverters, does the other inverter turn off as well?

I wanted to update this. Maybe it was a fluke but I thought maybe i'll switch the serial com cables so I flipped them so that the one on the left was now the one on the right. I started both inverters and display still stayed off but the inverter didn't shut down. I don't think it was simply that the cables were loose because I had taken them off and retightened twice prior. I know serial cables are bi-directional so it is probably a fluke or something but that's all I did.

I was then able to update the firmware of the MCU and the display came back on. On the second inverter after DSP update it also went blank but didn't shut itself down. MCU upgrade on that flashed fine and then the display came back and both were perfectly updated. It has been running fine so far since.

A couple things I would add for anyone reading later on. When I first tried to update firmware and it wouldn't even connect to the inverters... I tried an older laptop I had and it immediately downloaded the correct drivers through windows and connected and updated without a glitch. So some newer PCs may just not work because the drivers are technically "outdated" and considered "obsolete"

Thanks Adam for the replies and suggestions.

Glad it’s back up and running again. I know I had a few times where I had Err32 and thought I had bricked the inverter!
