Hi all,
I apologize if i missed what i am asking, ( i did search i promise ) i installed our 12k EG4 mini split in march and bar a few teething problems it has been great and offset our electric bill a good amount each month ( hindsight i should have saved for the bigger one )
Finances stop much more of the plans to add more solar, and as the days are shortening now and its finally time to switch to heat, ( we are in alabama )_ id like to also have this wired to the mains for some early morning heat in the main living area and evening. ( as i have no batteries/invertor and financially can not get them and everything else entailed this year. )
Am i correct in thinking i need a breaker outside the house that connects to the mini split, then from the breaker to the panel and a 20amp fuse.?
my panel is around 13 ft away opposite the window ( red mark ) and i have a crawl space which starts to the left of the drain ( blue mark) and has access all the way around to the sub panel around 21ft total.
i know i should use 12awg wire, im sure i have to have some wire certified for wet conditions to the breaker from the mini split, but do i also need the same cable in the crawl space or will normal romex do?
again sorry if this is dumb or answered before, but if anyone could help with links/advice it would be one less stress for me.
thank you
Lee

I'm afraid I don't know much more than I answered. However, if it is a 20 amp circuit you only need 14gauge but if that is the smallest they offer I would think it would work....and I suspect the disconnect is ok as well. BUT, I can't say for sure as I don't know the code for the outside stuff.

I assume you want to be code compliant. Otherwise you could just run romex in conduit that will be dry w/o a disconnect.

Thank you i appreciate the input regardless, as it does only need 14awg and a 20 amp breaker, i just wasnt sure if i needed the 60 or 30 amp disconnect, my brain says 30 is sufficient but i wanted to be sure if at all.

If you have a dedicated breaker for the unit in your electrical panel you don't need another breaker outside, a disconnect should suffice. BUT, local code could say different.

From what i could find, Alabama only requires the disconnect like you said, i just want to make sure i get the right one. a friend has a 12k mr cool ( normal mains ) and says he has a 30amp disconnect so that looks like the best shot.

thanks all, i appreciate the replies.

The disconnect is there so you can safely work on the outside unit. You wouldn't want someone to turn the breaker back on while you have your hand inside the unit.
