EG4 new products at RE+

Seems like if an inverter is purely off-grid, the name states the inverters output. If it's grid tie or hybrid, the name reflects solar input capacity. Because with those models, you don't need to have a battery. So using the array size in the name is probably easier for installers.

Only for EG4.
How would you guys label them if you were in charge?
By the industry standard (rated output).

That's honestly a good question.

I'm not so much bothered by the 18Kpv being 'only' 18K for pv, as I am the fact that the numbering scheme doesn't tell the whole story. Calling them Alex, Brian, Charlie and providing a chart for PV, Inverter, Bypass, Battery would keep the '18' and the '12' and the 'other 12' and the 'various sixes' from confusing the issue.

Now we've got a '12' that's '21' and also '16' and <wait, is that the same as the FlexBOSS 21?>, which the FB video says is "18 KW passthrough", which is 75A, so different(?) from the 18Kpv with it's 200A passthrough.

I mean, at least you know the important specs of a Victron 150/75 or 48/3000 without needing a cheat sheet.

My preference would be the "rated AC output", as most others manufacturers do. That said, I realize there is no standards body like the IEEE regulating a "standard" for naming. So, I'm perfectly fine with the naming convention they've chosen.

What I don't understand is this insane fixation on a name, rather than focusing on the actual capabilities and pros/cons for the hardware. But, haters are going to hate, hate, hate.

What I hate is the confusion that they create with their silly names.
Now, they are offering a 12kxp, a 12kpv, and a 18kpv.
Two of them are actually 12k units, but it's not the two that would make sense.
So, answering questions for members and visitors gets harder, when they don't use the exact name that the product they are asking about was given.
Someone asking for information about the EG4 12k hybrid.
You don't know if they are talking about the 12kpv, 18kpv, or the mini split. lol
Or maybe it's the 12kxp , that they think is a hybrid.

Are you making a video about cool stuff at RE+ 2024 @Will Prowse? Nothing good on youtube so far from there.
I'll go to conferences for fun but I'm not filming at them. The view count for those are pretty low. Did not make it to this show this year. Was in Canada, just got home from driving 1600 miles in Tesla. Montana was smokey so just drove like a mad man with a friend.

Probably need both PV and inverter output in the name. I think that would solve it.

I mean.. if you are going to rant on the name, then.. you should probably also not conflate "grid interactive" with hybrid.

Hybrid just means it can use the grid as well as batteries. It doesn't specifically mean anything about what grid capabilities it has.

So technically, both the XP series as well as the kpv series are both *hybrid*

But only the kpv series is grid interactive.

If you are going to be critical of names, you should probably consider being critical of terms, too :)
In my opinion though, when I hear someone say "hybrid", I know to drill a bit deeper and find out specifically what it means rather than to try and beat someone over the head trying to get them to use a specific term.

I don't think they are going to change the name. I think you should start selling them and naming them better. Idk what else to do to fix that
It's too late for their current products.
And they just keep adding to the silliness.
We need a new company to get behind. One with integrity.
