EG4 Price Changes – What You Need to Know

Importer buys thing for $1000 from china.
Importer sells think from china for $2000
Importer makes $1000 profit.

20% China tariff increases cost by $200 to $1200.
Importer raises price by 20% to $2400 saying, "because tariffs"
Importer makes $1200 profit.

Hmmm....
Importer tasks extra risks with higher cost of goods.

Importer sells fewer items at $2400 but their overheads don't change. If they made $1000 per, they would make less money.

The profit margin needs to scale as a percentage.

I suspect the good old days of buying solar stuff like from1 to 2 years ago out of Texas with free shipping and consistent pricing is all over. One of my past boss owner told me many times, what you spend today will cost you more tomorrow, so I had that thought while I bought a bunch of stuff knowing it was not going to last and here we are.

Every time China companies gets sued; they claim exempt due to sovereignty. Now let's start our own QC and see what can of worms that opens?

So...what can't be sourced in the US? If manufactured in the US with Chinese parts, tariff or no tariff? What manufacturers of inverters are NOT subject to the tariffs?

The EG4 3K Inverter just jumped $400 in price and their Server Rack 48V 100ah Lithium battery jumped $200. I guess I'm going to have to reconsider the portable solar kit from Will's Youtube site. Dang! This trade war is going to hurt and put back some plans.

My feeling is that we have been buying a lot overseas because of price and in some categories, quality. The idea that we need to bring manufactoring back to the U.S. is great BUT... it will not happen overnight. It can take 5 years or more to buy land, design a building, source materials, hire a workforce and train them. Then there is the cost for all that infrastructure and planning. Then there is the fact that overseas workers are probably not union members, don't get 401k or IRA plans, company cars, weekends or vacation time like we do, maternity or paternity time off, Election Day and all those holidays off and are not being paid like we are. Then there is the inflation which is currently increasing. All those costs are why we have been buying from overseas and why our price of goods will go up and not down.

There ya go. 27% increase in profit margin? Of not, WHERE IS THE 27% going. PLEASE be transparent with your customers.
Be glad it is not a beauty product.

During a 2020 episode of the ABC television show “Shark Tank” that aired, Fur co-founders Laura Schubert and Lillian Tung reveal the brand’s signature oil costs $5.34 to make and retails for $46, leading to a markup of more than 700%.

It seems funny that with a 20% increase in tariff that SS raised their EG4 prices by 47%.

Our batteries went up 12%, main inverters went up 0%, the accessories were re-classed and duties increased almost 40%, we are working on that but it is less than 5% of revenue. I know this is a talking point here but 95% of what we did was actually eat the cost and protect pricing on the volume of items. I predict that we can get these others back to 2024 pricing in the next 4 months with assembly and localization plans.

profit increase? that's funny.. we paid a bunch on stuff that we sold at the lower cost as well...

Hybrid 12K BTU Mini Split went from $1299 to $2049. Or did I read that wrong?

“but it is less than 5% of revenue.” I assume this refers to tariffs or duties?

main inverters went up 0%
GridBOSS from $1800 to $2400. The GB is a cost play since it wins because it replaces other stuff, but now that win is mostly eliminated.

FlexBOSS21 from $4200 to $4300. Okay, relatively minor, but the discounts are weaker and fewer now as well.

I don't see how the 0% number was computed from that.

No one is blaming EG4 for the tariffs, but don't treat us like dummies with claims we can easily see are false. Be honest and clear. If the prices have to go up, they go up, but understand EG4 is a value play and your sales will decrease because of the value loss.

I was ready to buy one FB21 and my brother was looking at two FB21 and GB. We both are now looking at alternatives, time to run the numbers again and see what else would do the job.

What are you planning to buy instead?

What are you planning to buy instead?
Evaluating options at this time.

Basic criteria: cheaper than EG4, 10 KW AC minimum, LV battery, 3+ MPPT (maybe 2 if they are "strong" enough), enough field reports to suggest they work well enough.
