Epoch 12V/460Ah IP67 after two months. Balancing: Oof!

Trying to see if I can get any info off the can bus lines. Usb adapter got nothing. Hooked the scope to the debug lines and its garbage once the battery is "on"

Such a shame all that nice build quality not working correctly. 😖

And the need to update a new battery seems like a 🤡 show, especially a new model.

Hey Epoch…maybe ya’ll could do that update BEFORE SHIPPING THEM OUT!

It has to be tough to be a vendor these days when you have reviewers out there highly recommending something one day and tearing their product to shreds the next. Also has to be frustrating for the reviewers. Will included.
Though I am happy that I got to see any content from Will, and the mention he did about the pergola and solar carport he's building/testing sounds interesting (I think that is what he said but not 100%).

I saw will liked the fuse in the video he just released. I was curious though - doesn't it also give a way for the OEM to 'brick' the battery by disabling the fuse somehow?
Wow, I did not think about that. Easy to fix if it were to occur though. Not like a bricked inverter

I'm sure there's a way to break the fet bank with bad software. Just force it to disconnect and connect loads at a frequency higher than what the fets are rated for, and disable temp sensor on fet heatsink. Not hard to do.

Or just change the LVD or HVD. That will kill any battery too. Harder to swap cells than to swap a BMS.

It is very frustrating but these companies come and go. What matters is the viewer. Luckily this is electronics so I don't really have to have an opinion. I can just test it and show. Usually it's better to show than it is to speak.

I'm just disappointed because I like the batteries 😂 But part of what I have to do is to remove hope from the equation.

Now this forum is super effective. Sometimes something works great for me but not for others. Communication helps everyone

Will, just curious if you had a soft brick like I had from the previous update as well?

The T class fuse in the original version wasn’t exactly readily available either…

(Like at every West Marine or electrical supply house).

Mine would not charge or discharge And this is what the meter was showing me:

Yeah that's how mine is now.
The previous update soft bricked, took multiple reboots to get it working was really odd. I was hesitate to do this one after that but I did and I'm not surprised when it was bricked.
See post #172

Will - thanks for putting out the video and calling balls and strikes. There is someone that I've been following on FB that is doing a bunch of testing with these V2's for them however I feel that he's just just a cheerleader for Epoch. I've been waiting for one of his new videos to drop but hasn't put one out in over a month and I'm starting to speculate that he is having some trouble with these batteries too and doesn't want to make Epoch look bad.

I'm still having the red blinking light issues that have not resolved yet if I turn on DVCC with out setting a limit managed battery charge voltage. I've managed to get it crepted up to 14.3 but that sometimes triggers the OVP. I've had these on the bench in the garage for close to two months now and it's frustrating as heck. Kinda sucks that you pay for the Victron Comms and and can't get it to work. I should have just paid for the essentials as I may just take them off DVCC altogether.

So bottom line is that I bought two V1's and had trouble with them and gave them a second chance and now having trouble with these V2's. I would not recommend these batteries to anyone.

Lastly, I have not done the second firmware update as I'm scared of what might happen.

Will - Epoch responded to your video:

"Hi Will & Community,We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to test our products. Your feedback means a lot to us!Regarding the firmware updates over Bluetooth, we wanted to let you know that this issue was patched a few weeks ago. If you have the latest version of our app installed on either Android or iOS, there’s no risk of bricking your battery. In the very rare event that a firmware update does fail, the software will automatically revert to the previous version, ensuring a seamless experience. We also want to emphasize that updating the battery firmware is entirely optional. The battery functions exactly as advertised straight out of the box. However, since this product is designed to last 15+ years, we felt it was important to offer customers the ability to update as we continue refining and optimizing its performance to keep up with new advancements in the market.------Regarding the capacity test results. We are actively engaging with you and investigating all of these variables to better understand why your test results didn’t reach 100Ah+ when all of our internal testing does 106AH or more and we will want to verify your firmware update as it certainly seems to be a software issue on the ones you tested. From our side, we maintain factory test data for every battery pack that leaves our facility. Additionally, we are spot-checking inventory to ensure consistency and, so far, have not found any batteries testing below the advertised capacity. Thanks again for your time and support! Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions. We do have tablets available to rewrite firmware in the rare case this situation did happen to you. Where was this posted?
(Assuming that's from epoch)
They expected us to be testers, is what I just read?
Mine was bricked on Monday 3-10 so what ever they" fixed " didn't work or they are just making it up.

It’s like they didn’t watch the video. Or gaslighting Will and the public… 😵‍💫

Yeah this whole response that I'm seeing is not how you deal with these things. Not smart in opinion. I was doing the capacity test and texting them every single thing. They know there's a problem. It's also not the capacity of the cells but the software that's limiting it. That's also why they wanted me to update the firmware because my capacity test results were not good. They told me that it's because the old firmware had that as an issue. They're really not mentioning our discussions or my testing at all. It's unfortunate. I'm waiting for them to respond in a better fashion but I think I might have to post all of my results. I don't like how they're doing this. They even thought that my workshop was too cold 😂 My shunt was showing the same results as their BMS shunt. And it matched my CVA 5 pro. I also took pictures of the cell voltages before and after. And I even got low voltage disconnect before the shunt showed 100 amp hours. When companies respond like this and deny fault even though I sent them all the evidence for multiple days, pisses me off. Not cool

There's another problem that I didn't even mention in the video. Might need to make a new thread or a video about all this considering how they are responding right now. I just want people to know what the problems are.

DO NOT UPDATE!
Just updated BMS and looks like it's a brick now.
Switch is lit up like its on but no voltage at terminals. Meter shows no communication error. And keeps turning off.
Did they happen to mention what this 2nd firmware update is suppose to fix specifically?

Epoch removing all reviews less then 4 stars from their website?
