I read someplace (Reddit if I recall correctly) that string inverters were not allowed in Germany due to fire safety concerns.

Does anyone know if this is true? And how that issue is managed? It would lead me to believe that they use micro inverters.

Do we have any German members? Or perhaps other EU contries.

thanks

EU member here, but not from Germany (NL). You should check a local PV supplier or some DE government site that can provide more information regarding what is allowed and what not.
As a general statement it seems a bit odd, to me at least, as I have a German build (SMA) string inverter myself at home which supplies AC to the grid. What I can imagine it might not be allowed to do this as DIY as you are connected to the utility grid.
