Putting together my 48v off-grid system, and have discovered that my all-in-one inverter/charge controller doesn't have low-temp cut-off, and two of my batteries also do not have low-temp cut-off. Obvs I will need to solve the low temp problem. First stage of the plan is some heat mats in the battery compartment, but obviously if I have enough dark days in a row--especially if I'm not home--they will drain down and then will be in danger of charging in the cold, so I need an external low-temp cut-off as well. Is this something that could be done with a thermostat and a relay? I'm looking for something dead reliable, as I don't fancy re-buying batteries if I can at all avoid it.
Anyone have experience with this from the days before batteries were building these things into the batteries themselves?
