Future Panels

How can the current be 1000 times stronger than current cells which are about 20% efficient?
Surely you can't get more than 100% of the sun's energy, so I figure 5 times more, tops.

Hmmm . . . a lot of incorrectness here.

Solar efficiency is the percentage of available sunlight that the cells can convert to electricity.

Two orders of magnitude is 100, not 1000.

All that article is saying is, with the same amount of sunlight, their technology is capable of generating 1000 times more electricity than the current silicon-based technology.

I think the title of the article is just hype to get attention ...... they are not saying what everyone thinks they are saying. They are only comparing the technology against alternative samples of itself .... NOT comparing to silicone cells.

Read the snip from the article carefully.

They aren’t comparing their technology to silicone. They are comparing with ferroelectrics like barium titanate. At this point it’s an apples and orangutans comparison.
