I considered hooking batteries directly to solar panels for one senerio.... EMP takes out our charge controllers and you have no power...... My solution was to get a mechanical timer ( like off a dryer ) and turn it on for say 4 hours.... This would allow both protection for the battery and you get a charged battery.

I've had a similar setup running for over a year now, (3) 100watt panels with a Victron charge controller. My Cart stays parked outside 100% of the time and I've not used the AC charger since the retrofit.

My Cart gets used quite a bit in the warm months and the solar keeps up just fine.
