After watching Will’s video about Grade B cells, I took the plunge on an order of 280ah LiFePo4 cells. Took a while for me to too charge (set to 3.6V). Now one cell swells (another one has even more very minor swelling).

The cell in question is at 3.48V (rest of cells at 3.5).
I’ve included some photos which hopefully help illustrate my concern (I apologize for the photo quality, was hard to document). One photo is of two batteries touching and you can see the separation at the top and base of the battery. Another photo is using a straightedge to try to demonstrate the swelling. Finally, I attached a screenshot of my BMS.

Is this amount of swelling a concern? Seems minor but I’ve read that swelling is a sign of bad things to come.

Additionally, are Grade B cells a bad idea for a high vibrational environment like off-roading? I’m planning on putting with in the interior of my 4x4 truck so I’m extra concerned about the issues swelling.

THANKS!!

Probably be a good idea to read thru some of the threads about compression .... search is your friend.

Adding to what Bob said above, you essentially have zero compression. I would NEVER put that battery in a mobile environment the way you have it taped up like that.

I have two 4s 280Ah batteries in my RV toy hauler. They are compressed and well secured. I have zero problems with them.
