Thank you for adding me. I'm building a small 24 volt back-up system and I'm looking for a grid-tie inverter (smart one) that will use the solar power during the day while continuing to charge the batteries. The only time I want to use the battery power is when the grid goes out. I just want to supplement my grid bill and have my small back-up system ready. It also has to work with a smart meter and I only need the 120v line on the panel. Does anyone have a link to an good lower-cost inverter like that. Thank you again.
 
Good, yes ... low cost, not so much. You're looking for a 'hybrid inverter' (Google it for more info), these can both grid-tie and offer a backup supply. Examples of such products are here.
