Hi

I am considering grid tieing my solar system and just trying to get my head round it. Please correct and help with any assumptions etc

1. Panels directly connect to grid tie inverter.

2. Charge the batteries up during the day using the grid that your feeding into.

So how do you use the batteries at night when there’s no sun? Do you need a manual transfer switch and a different system for using the batteries?

Thanks.

If you already have a solar system with batteries and wish to grid-tie, also known as grid interactivity, you will need a UL1741 compliant Inverter otherwise the utility will not give permission to operate. If you live in CA and I believe a few other states have adopted it, the Inverter has to be Rule 21 compliant as well. In Hawaii they have rule 14H Etc. You probably need to do some research based on your utility company and local building dept.
