GridBoss in direct morning sunlight

Quick question. I’m getting the GridBoss and FlexBoss installed this Thursday. For the GridBoss to serve as the external service AC disconnect it would be installed outside on the east side of my house next to the meter. It would be in direct morning sunlight for about four hours. But, the manual says not to expose the GridBoss to direct sunlight.

Is it okay to expose to direct morning sun for four hours? Or do I need to install it inside and have the installers put on external AC service disconnect next to the meter?

It's the vampire power, makes it allergic to sunlight ; -)

Not familiar with those EG4 devices, but the usual reason not to expose it to direct sunlight is to keep the battery from getting to hot as it seriously degrades them. If that's the best location for it just put some sort of shade shield around it (not an enclosed box, it'll still need ventilation).

It would be great if there was an answer to this—for other people to refer to when considering installation locations.

Did you get an answer maybe directly from EG4 or SS? Where did you decide to mount it?

I was told by SS and EG4, do not mount in direct sunlight. I have it in my garage and had to put a service disconnect outside next to the meter.

My installers are supposed to finish tomorrow and I will post pictures when completed.

I talked to SS when I was looking into options a few weeks ago. In my case it would be on the West wall and in August that wall gets to be 140f plus (Cedar siding stained brown). In direct sun. They told me 140F was the limit since it it get gets hotter than that on a warm sunny day I am working on finding other options that are practical for mounting it elsewhere. My problem is I don't have a great place I want to use indoors for the GridBoss. Already was going to have the FlexBoss be mounted 60' away in the barn...

Yea, this is a bit of a bummer. Changes a lot of people's plans I think. Since many are now having to mount the GridBoss indoors, it would be great if there was a flush mount GridBoss variation for recessed installations.
