Perhaps, someone can suggest some options regarding the location for the Gridboss. We have a 400-amp service split as 200-amp for house and 200-amp for shop with manual disconnects for each (meter is next to the manual disconnects). The 200-amp house critical loads panel is approx. 125 feet from the meter and the 200-amp shop panel is approx. 95 feet from the meter. Ideally, we would like to be able to back up the critical loads in the house (perhaps even lights in the shop) and be able to utilize the smart ports for load shedding. The part that is questionable is whether we will be able to utilize the smart ports if the GB is placed next to the meter without incurring a large expense for wiring. It is my understanding that it is recommended that the GB be located near the meter. I have had suggestions to add another GB and FB21 but that is not in the budget.

I have the same problem coming up with a new construction project I am working on with a 400amp service along with two 200amp subs. Although two flex bosses may solve the problem of feeding two 200amp subs, we loose out on the parallel peak load capacity of two separate FB21/gridboss systems during a blackout condition. Also - the extra expenses involved ...
