Gridboss standalone, no inverter, but with smartloads?

I'm just beginning my system. I currently have a garage without power, that I would like to use a Gridboss as the service entrance. I would connect a circuit up to the backup/panel and some loads to smart load ports (such as EV charger (initially), Heat Pump (later), etc). So initially there would not be an inverter connected at all.

Is this a supported configuration? It's essentially just using pass-through from the grid port.

Is there any setting in the Gridboss to tell it how many amps are available on the grid port? Say for example I run a 30A 220 line to it from the house main panel (ie, unused dryer breaker). So that if the EV charger is turned on and at some point a Heat Pump kicks in and has priority, it would turn off the EVSE smart load, then later when the HP cycles off it restores the EVSE power ?

Thanks.

Yes, You can do it as described.
The 2nd part will probably be harder. You can configure the smart port with power shedding to drop loads based on time/SOC, but not based on the status of another smart port/overall amps used.

We really need EG4 to publish the modbus for the GridBoss so we can externally automate this stuff with something like Home Assistant.

Unless this has been tested and documented, take everything with a grain of salt as I have come to realize with all this new tech. Midnite AIO included!

The FlexBOSS is a Microgrid Interconnection Device, as described in 2023 NEC 705.70. What your wanting to do is the realm of an Energy Management System, 2023 NEC 750. They are different things. And while you can probably arm twist the FlexBOSS into doing sort of what you want, it really isn't designed for that.

You should take a look at the Leviton load centers. For a garage, you could get a 20 space panel with the appropriate smart breakers and controller and do exactly what you're asking for. That is what it's designed to do and will be much more flexible.
