System:
12V battery 200 Ah Chins
Renogy 2000W inverter 120V
Using load output connectors, not outlets
Connected to Intermatic mechanical timer.
Load on timer connected to outdoor rated outlet box mounted to wood.
AFCI / GFCI receptacle. .
Under an outdoor cover.

Turned inverter on.
Turned timer switch to on.
Green light works on receptacle.
Tried drill on outlet and worked.
Plugged in my AGCI/ GFCI / test meter.

Meter tells me open ground.
Push button to test GFCI and does nothing.
Push button to test AFCI and does nothing.

Meter works in other receptacles inside grid tied home as expected.

Ground from receptacle connected to Intermatic timer chassis. Ground wire from inverter load connector connected to timer chassis.
Timer mounted to wood.
Inverter mounted to wood.
Do i need to ground inverter to earth? If yes does the inverter have a lug to do that?

You don’t connect the battery to earth ground that I know this.

Thanks for reading.

The Renogy inverter probably does not have a neutral-ground bond.
When you use the load connector, they expect you to wire it into a panel as shown below.
The panel has one (and only one) neutral-ground bond, typically a green screw.
Your GFCIs have no ground fault path to be able to trip.

You could probably bridge N and G at the Renogy load connector,
but I would defer to others here whether that is safe and will not blow up the Renogy.

Confusingly, these units have built-in GFCI, but I guess that only applies to the outlets.
