Hello,

Has anybody updated their Growatt 5000 firmware? I believe that I'm on 041 05 701. Does anybody know what the latest version is? And if you do, what updates or goodies are in the latest firmware update?

Thanks

Dave

mine is on the same version. installed about 3 months ago. no idea how long the seller had it in stock. All the internet searches I did a month so ago say it is the latest version.

I had some discussions with technical support regarding the 18A MPPT limitation.
(by the way, in the latest user manual it says 22A)

I may get a new firmware for the update.

Where in the manual does it state the Amp limitation?
I'm sure I saw it when I installed mine 4 months ago, but my PV array is 5S2P, each string is 230Vdc and 12.97Amps so total Amp input is almost 26 Amps, well above 18 amp or 22 amp.

user manual version 4, p38.

Regarding the limitation...
I can see it during the energy production.
I have 8s2p 375W, I_mp 10.94A so my setup is capable of 21.88A.
The V_mp usual is 276V and I can barely see 5kw.
On the inverter display I could see max 18A PV current.

Interesting..

Doesn't show that in my manual. (attached, on page 39, same table)

My panels are 540w and have 10 so max 5400w. Highest watts I have seen on the inverter is 3500w but I am in Thailand and have not seen summer on these panels yet. Have not been looking at the Amps on the inverter. Will do so next time the suns out..

Have bought a second inverter to run in parallel and 6 more 540w panels. Will run 8 panels in series to each inverter so 396Vdc at 12.97 Amp. So if this limitation is correct it won't affect me anyway. But good to know.

I've got 2 firmware files from technical support Germany.
F030_SK041.06_20220104_A.bin
F2809_SK040.06_20220104_A.bin

You are correct. My inverter tops out at 18Amp. Voltage floats around 190-200Vdc.
This is why the highest Watts I have seen is about 3500-3600W (200x18). Like I said before, this won't be a problem for me when I install a second inverter, but this is about 2 months away while I am building another roof.

Please let me know how your firmware update goes.

Was there any documentation provided? other fixes/features?

No documentation.
I found some fw upd guide on the Growatt polish sitevand the shinebus.exe software on the Growatt italian site.

I've contacted signaturesolar for some clarifications.
They use the isptool for fw update.

So, there is nothing clear yet.

Did the firmware upgrade.

It seems the 18A MPPT limitation is gone.
I had today 5800W from 6kwp compared with version.... 05 7.01 where the MPPT could not produce more tham 5000W from my PV setup.

Here is a good guide
You need the usb-serial drivers (the same from the cd with PVKeeper), the ISPTool v4.20 or 4.30 and the bin files.
If you wish to do MPPT fw-upgrade, load F030 file first (7-10min) and after inverter restart, load the inverter file F2809 (8-11min)

I added the tool and other stuff in the previous post.

Just be sure the usb communication is working properly. Test with the PVKeeper first.
A good idea is also to remove the usb datalogger from the inverter so that it will be no interference on the serial comm.

My i5 lenovo laptop gave me ~2h of headaches since com5 and com6 were taken by the bluetooth and the CP210x serial bridge got com7 assignment.
I could not establish comunication with the inverter on that port using PVKeeper (it froze constantly, not responsive), it made no sense since I used PVKeeper to set the parameters the first time 4-5 months ago.
So I took my 15yr old laptop 2xcore win7 and I had no problem with the single com port from it's list.

I followed the instructions and it sends "send start!" over and over again until the tool locks up. Any ideas?

@JohnGalt1717 did you manage to complete the flash? I'm about to flash my 3 Growatt spf 5000es inverters with version 06 but I'm afraid that it may stuck.
