Today I saw on GWL's website: "GWL Group a.s. has terminated all business activities within the insolvency proceedings.". Their YouTube Channel's last content is from Feb 12, 2024. My reason to mention this on this forum is that they seem to have been a big player (see self-reported bullets below) and they published (amongst others) very interesting safety experiments with LFP cells on YouTube. I wonder what happened to GWL and/or their market (AliExpress took over?). If anybody has more specific info around GWL, please share. Disclaimer: I have zero financial interest in GWL.

From their YouTube Channel about section (20241004):

▶ THE LARGEST DISTRIBUTOR OF LFP BATTERY CELLS IN EUROPE
Since 2008, GWL Group has become the most prominent European distributor of LFP cells. In addition, the distribution also offers its own brand of energy components called ELERIX.
▶ 15-YEARS R&D OF ENERGY STORAGE SOLUTIONS
From the first moment, we’ve been helping thousands of our customers worldwide to design their own tailor-made solutions for complete battery storage systems of all sizes. This way we have accumulated unique know-how that can hardly be found elsewhere in Europe.
▶ MANUFACTURER OF COMPLETE BATTERY STORAGE SYSTEMS
We’ve taken strategic advantage of our 12-MWh-large stock of the world’s best LFP cells and our technical know-how to create AMVOLT – a European manufacturer of complete battery storage systems of all sizes. We use the same strategic advantage to develop and design replicable battery solutions for customers needing their own battery storage systems.

might have got caught with a large amount of LFP before the price drop and they cant move them at the price they paid = game over

It’s surprising to hear about GWL’s closure, especially given their prominent role in LFP battery distribution and storage solutions. Their safety experiments and innovations were valuable to the industry. I wonder if market competition or shifts in demand (e.g., platforms like AliExpress) contributed to their downfall. If anyone has deeper insights, please share!

They were great for getting Winston cells in the EU. We ordered smaller batches of cells for certain projects from them and never had any issues - sad to see them gone...

rip
only found out about this today when I was seeing if they had any lipo pouch cells to fix an old laptops
RIP
another amazing company gone
