After watching Will's YouTube solar posts for a few months I decided to build my own and I learned the following:
1) Will recommended a all in one for simplicity. Because of high idle power draws, I decided to go with separate solar controller, inverter/charger and a transfer switch. The wiring and cricuit breakers took a long time. I had trouble getting the parts to work together and programing was confusing.
2) I bought 3 cheaper 3000w inverters ($300-$600). None worked to my satisfaction. I got a refund on the $600 inverter and sold the cheaper ones at a used reduced price. I spent $1000 on my 4th inverter and it worked good and was easy to program.
3) I installed 6 -100 watt ground mounted solar panels on a wooden frame. I Also installed 3- 390w panels on a adjustable steel pole mount for a total of 1770 watts. The location was in the only south facing part of my yard. Due to a lot of trees, good sun is only about 3 hours a day. I should have installed two pole mounted with 3- 390w panels each for a total of 2340 watts.
The one easy part of my system is 16 -100ah fortune batteries wired for 24 volts.
I'm ready for a power outage now.

Aside from pics, I’d like to hear throughout the day how much you can charge the batteries with the shade.

My solar panels produced 3 kwh yesterday
