Slept at my cabin the other night with temp down into upper 20's. havent gotten the wood burner installed yet.
I took my big sleeping bag and this new heated mattress pad to use on the bed. Figured it was going to be a long night.
Turns out it was great. went to bed in my sweat suit and with this heated mattress pad I had set on #5 of 10, i was out of my sweats in a hour and had it turned down to #3 for the rest of the night.
Much warmer than using a electric blanket over the top of you. Ran it off generator this time. I need to stick my killawatt meter on it and see what it draws and run off the batteries next time.
Well worth the $49 cost for the twin size. This particular brand is like a fitted sheet and not just a loose pad that will slip around and move out from under you. Also has a auto off up to 10 hr timer. A lot only run for 2-4 hours before self shut down.

We love the heated matress pad. Takes very little power and keeps you cozy. With the house kept at 64 at night We just use it to warm the bed then turn it off.

Dog and I love our heated mattress pad.

I did put it on a killawatt when I first got it. It has 8 heat levels and averages ~13w on level 1 where it's usually running while we sleep. At full blast it's 90w but I can't imagine doing that without baking like a potato. I use the 2nd level (avg ~20w) for preheating and for when we are sitting on the bed on top of the covers. I think I put it on 3 once.

i use a Japanese hot carpet in this fashion. its a heated pad designed to be walked on and to have table placed on, so it is very durable and resistant to damage from weight on top of it.

my wife thought I was crazy at first but now 20 years later she admits it works and is cheap. i posted about it in another thread but here is a basic photo of one. lay one directly on the mattress and lay a thin comforter over it and then lay directly on top of it and cover yourself with a comforter

we got one that is just the right size for a queen size bed, and it has twin controls so my wife can set hers side warmer and I can run mine cooler. you can also set how long it is turned on for. so set it at a low temp and let it run for a n hour or so, and then it shuts off. the better ones also have time on timers, so you can set it to shut off after an hour or two, and then turn on at a predetermined time later (hint: an hour before you wake) and they use pennies to run.

most Japanese houses are not heated 24-7 like in the US. they also tend to keep them cooler int he winter using less energy to heat, but you need to wear long johns or use heavy bathrobes to stay comfortable. its just a different way to live.

My wife is a human furnace and likes the bedroom much cooler than me. So, we bought a dual control heated mattress pad. She never turns her side on, while I have it set to 5 most of the night. I find my old bones and muscles feel better, I sleep well, and I can't even tell that it's on from an energy use standpoint, in our off grid house. Fantastic invention.

Wife and I have a dual zone electric blanket. Unfortunately I've read several places that we're not supposed to use electric mattress pads on a memory foam mattress. I guess that makes sense, but I would have liked to give it a try.

I just bought a Queen size one this morning as Amazon dropped the price 11% and there was also a 10% additional amount off. I tried electric blankets over the years and while they were great they never lasted long. Typically was lucky to get a Winter use out them. So it will be interesting if this fitted pad style is better.
