Hello, Wife and I want to build an off-grid setup in Ontario Canada

Today the MRS put the following together so we would know our usage.
NOTE: 2020 was a bad year. Around Jan 19th or 20th 2020 we lost our oil fired boiler and we started using 6 of those electric heaters that look like an old style water heater, until we replaced our oil fired boiler the first week of Nov 2020.

My 2 cents on shipping containers. Lifting them with a small hydraulic jacks pretty easy. Be careful not to bend the contact point. And getting it off the ground a foot or two solved many problems (moisture and animals mostly). Cutting 6’ holes in the floor for curculation worked for me. Cover with screen and hardware cloth screwed to floor. Airflow between the walls and insulation is also helpful. Panels on the roof help with heat. Cool roof elastomeric white paint also helps (different considerations in TX).

Good project. Keep us posted.

I might not be able to go full off-grid and only use it as a supplement power.
Knowing the MRS wants certain heavy load items and now seeing our usage shown above.

But this is where figuring our what we'll need is well over my head. Grin
(Back to lunch and working on the farm.)
