Dear Self,

I regret to inform you that you are a dried up old turd. That engineering degree? The focus on aerodynamics/gas dynamics/thermodynamics, etc.???

Yeah. Dummy. You forgot a lot, dincha? I mean, it was 30 years ago, but...

Oh... yeah... and that pilot's license? You know... where you literally have to be operationally aware of density altitude and its effect on engine/aircraft performance?

Yeah... you forgot that crap too, eh? I mean, it was... 25 years ago, but...

You even brag like a jackass about how you often get more than 1000W/m^2 because you know... THINNER AIR!!!!

Oh... you think you're clever because you installed the proper jet for high altitude operation... No. That doesn't mean you change the laws of physics... DUMMY!

STILL... you manage to forget that you're not going to get rated power out of your generator at 6500 feet and spend 30 minutes tweaking and scratching your head about how poorly your generator is performing now that you've finally gotten it setup for drawing from both phases of the generator instead of just the one?.... Dummy.

So, yeah. I did. I chased some really crappy generator performance issues for half an hour before I *headesked* and remembered derating due to density...

3600W @ 6500' means about 2900W, which is almost exactly where it was bogging down, dropping frequency and the mighty Quattros kicked it to the curb when frequency dropped below 45Hz....

What a dummy.

Don't be a dummy.

Don't feel bad, even the pro's have brain farts. At least you didn't placed the emergency generators in the basement at Fukushima. Did you?
Unlike you, they didn't realize their mistake even after 40 years.

How about the "HHO Days"? A local vender was able to convince a sheriff department to add HHO generators to their vehicles.

"The concept is to use a device called an "HHO generator" to produce hydrogen-oxygen gas (HHO) from water through electrolysis, and then feed this gas directly into the engine's carburetor, with the idea that it can enhance combustion and potentially improve fuel efficiency by providing additional oxygen to the air-fuel mixture."

Project Farm tried that, didn't work out well for the HHO.
I played with it. I ended up making a bunch of 2 liter rockets. It burned so hot that the 2 linters would implode with melted plastic and cool comming down like a deformed tube. Lots of fun in ye old days.

It takes more energy to split water than it is to reburn it let alone the wire resistance and heating the water. How about using solar to charge batteries that creates the HHO? Probibly never be worth it but now you are adding oxygen and hydrogen in the perfect 1:2 ratio increasing gas mileage. There is also new catalyst being used to increase efficiency. Poor Mans Hybrid

I wonder what would happen to your genny if you took the output of an oxygen concentrator and put it at the air intake to bring the O2 level back up to where it is at sea level.... I wonder how many liters per minute it would take?

I wonder if the genny would explode or burn itself up quick, or if the air intake sucks so much that 5L/min wouldnt do a thing?

I wonder if you will just laugh

Is it the O2 concentration or the atmospheric pressure that the generator needs?
I assume it needs both to be "at sea level".

The oxygen partial pressure is what is relevant - it's what burns the fuel. You can get more partial pressure by increasing the overall pressure (lower altitude, supercharger, turbocharger) or by increasing the oxygen concentration (CPAP). Nitrous oxide is about 36% oxygen, which humans can't use - it causes suffocation if you breathe only that for too long, but car engines can use it.

lol ,,, Good for you to post this @sunshine_eggo

Density Altitude getting you Down 😁.

Cheer Up, it sneaks up on us all.

My 3500’ strip is sometimes 6000’ DA.

Being a West Coaster, I have done more airports (or river gravel bars) & Sea Level than anything. On a Hot day @ a short high altitude strip in WA (with no windsock) in my Cub, on final I was looking & ASI vs GPS & thought I was landing with a decent tailwind ,,, pulled up tear drop reversal & on the 180 final same discrepancy ASI to GPS ,,, duh 🤪.

It happens,,,

Another time ,,, Flying into Sedona AZ ,,, completely read “The Brown Book” Blaa, Blaa, Blaa it mentioned the downdrafts. On final & it was relatively smooth ,,, I kept pushing in the black knob as what looked good was deteriorating as to making the numbers. 🙄 ,,, sometimes I am about as Sharp as a Beachball ,,, I had just read about the downdrafts ,,, Sedona (I’m sure you know), is referred to as the aircraft carrier ( not from shortness - but “Table Top” )

Edit; correction “Black” knob ,,, But here is a high altitude 4 place video where the red knob is fully in 😳;
