Hi from Portugal - 48v DIY battery help

first i do not work with nor am i affiliated with any companies. for Winston cells brand new form the factory I paid 400 per cell shipped to japan for the 400 amp hour units. their website address is below. it has the different models listed. obviously different sizes have different prices. you can go to their webpage and request that one of their international agents contact you.

if you live in a country where they have a distributor, they will send you to the distributor.

here is the model I bought. https://en.winston-battery.com/?cnxdc/305.html

remember these are direct form the factory not via a reseller the agent that contacts you should have a XXXX@thundersky-winston.com email address

first I guess i should say that as far as I am concerned as long as I am getting good cells, then my "battery" should be just as good as any pre-assembled battery pack. it really boils down to the cells, and your attention to detail while building. that is jsut me though. the good thing about the winstons, is that you can get cells large enough not to need parallel connections to get the capacity you need,

I agree!

Im trying to contact winston right now.

Final question - for the normal grade A cells from eve or QSO, would you buy it from alibaba? Or only a trusty reseller?

Thank you

personally I will never buy from a reseller again. the "cost savings" are not cost savings int he long run. If I am not buying form the company that makes the items I am not interested. So sub companies that exist within the framework of the parent company woudlbe acceptable, so if EVE creates and internal division called EVE2U or whatever as long as you can trace it directly back to the primary manufacture I would buy form them. the main company wants to keep its name clean, as a result you would get exactly what was advertised (more or less) with warrantees that are actually worth the paper they are written on.

when you buy from a reseller online you have almost zero recourse, especially on alibaba or alipress notice how well several companies are doing now that they stock batteries in the US? Its because all of their holdings can be taken from them by the courts under the right circumstances... fraud is one of those circumstances. the customers understand this and know that they can get their pound of flesh form the seller if they get screwed over, as a result that seller is having problems maintaining stock.

Sorry but maybe i didn’t understood everything because of the translation process.

So, don’t buy from Alibaba or aliexpress even if they are the real company? There’s a YouTube channel - the off grid garage saying that we should only buy from alibaba.
There is also some of the users here that are referring Amy and Jenny and god knows who ….

The other options I have are:

18650batterystore (they send worldwide)
Nkon
Powercells.de (any feedback?)

Thanks…almost there

andy at offgrid garage makes money off of his channel, good bad or indifferent take it with a grain of salt when it comes to spending your money. not saying he is wrong... just a couple of years of watching this forum have taught me to be cautious.

look at it this way, even Will has made mistakes, (and he readily admits to them) about some of the vendors. if you are ordering from a country that has strict laws in regards to fraud, then I would say that you are probably safe. If you are buying direct from china, make sure that you are buying form the manufacture and not a reseller. I know they have a store listed as the EVE store on alibabba. do they use an email address that is registered as an EVE domain? No? then they probably are not actually EVE. if they do, then hey, all is well.

once again expectation against budget. I had to massively increase my budget to get cells that I feel comfortable with. Some think i paid too much.... I think I paid what i paid and it satisfies me.

Hello Joel,

Im also from Portugal, and i will give just my opinion from what i read here on the forum, and the conclusion i come.

I totally agree with @Daddy Tanuki , in terms of price buying directly from the supplier is not a big difference, the overall experience probably can be the same from Supplier Vs Retailers , but at least you know that you are buying exactly what you paid for !

For you information i contacted EVE trough alibaba , as they have also listings from Europe , but they only sell if you have a VAT from a company .
The payment method since it will be sent from Germany is only bank transfer.

At the moment im waiting to see if someone already have bought trough them and did the payment like this to be sure.

Hi Calisto

Greetings from aveiro.

If that is the case, for me it would be really dificult because i dont own a company.

Do you know powercells.de ?

A friend told me about them. He lives in germany and said they were reliable.

I will wait as well.

Hey !

Without a company then its tricky you can try contact them.. i saw somewhere someone speaking that they actually gave him a estimation.

Never heard about powercells, i mean probably they have good batteries i guess is a miss or hit situation , i see this as a black market with the resellers and this chinese companys.

Greetings from Setubal, Portugal.
This has been a very interesting topic, and this is actually my first post ever (just joined the forum).
I have more or less the same questions, but I have time on my side since I am trying to design the best system for a house that is not yet ready, so I am trying to get as much info as possible.
At this point I am also considering a 16 pack (280Ah), with case and BMS (new vertical system from Apexium with JK PB2A16S20P seems promising).
My main concern is that I am also considering a Goodwe ES and to me is not yet clear how well comms will work between the inverter and BMS. I know you don't necessarily need comms for the whole thing to work, but I think it does not make much sense to build a new system from scratch and have such limitations.

all the bells and whistles are limitations in themselves. How many people on this forum spend more time with their systems down trying to get the bells and whistles to work then the ones who do not use those things?

I don't mind spending time trying to get things to work as they should. I spent quite an amount of time putting my current system to work as I wanted it to, particularly the monitoring side, using Home Assistant. It was worth it.
Now what I want is to design a system that when it comes to installing it will give me the maximum functionality with the least amount of surprises. Obviously, that means I will benefit from the experience of others who have "been there, done that" and found the solutions.

Hi from Perth, Australia.

I have a Goodwe gw5000 ES hybrid inverter which communicates with my Seplos upright 48v 300ah battery (Seplos 2.0 200A BMS) just fine. So long as you select the "default Lithuim 100ah" battery option in the inverter settings it works flawlessly. Charge/discharge vaules set in BMS show in inverter, as well as battery temperature.

News!

I bought 16 cells from Amy at Docan.

I have to give some feedback about this subject. So, only 15 cells arrived. One was stolen or missing in transport, or they "forgot" to put it inside the card box. However, Amy gave a great response and solution. She sent me one cell after cheking with their warehouse and they confirmed that the weight was off. It was the only proof she needed.
Very pleased with this and i can recommend her.

Now, one question:

The cells are inside the apexium v3 case with JK bms with active balancing. What should i do first? Top balancing? Is it needed? Anything else?

And what about the bms settings for LF280k with a goodwee inverter capable of converting a lot of power?

Thank you

always top balance it is the one given that people that do not top balance, those who think they can rely upon a 1 or 2 amp active balancer always seem to have trouble 6-8 months down the road. being that it costs no more than a 20-30 dollar fixed set point 3.65 volt charger other than the time it takes, why not do it?

I will do it. Thanks.

Any recomendations for the bms settings? How to prevent excess depth of charge? Any tutorial on the web?
