I am looking for a new inverter. In needs to be pure sine wave, 12v, and 2000W-3000W (3000 preferably). Note; It must be 12v for my application. I know all about the current draw I would be looking at. I am mainly going this big just so that it will reliably start my AC that draws about 750-900 watts once running.
I had a 1500W unit that worked well until I blew it up by accident by dropping a washer in it that let the magic smoke out. I picked up a cheap 1500W one from Amazon, that works ok, but it weighs about 1/4 what the old workhorse did, and won't start my AC (which my old one did). I don't mind paying a little more for a quality unit, provided it actually works.
Some of my other criteria, are battery terminal bolts that are actually sized for the amount of current the unit will be pulling. That cheap 1500W unit I got has very small screw posts, not bolts like my old one had. Also the cables should not block the fan (as a lot of them seem to). I don't need a lot of bells and whistles like remote switches or displays, but if it has it, that's fine. Just not a necessity. I also don't care how loud the fans are, as it will be in a shed. Keeping it cool, is more important than the noise it makes.
Has technology really come along that much or is all this new stuff just crap. I'm mainly talking about the size/weight. It seems that all of the inverters now are really light and seem way too small for the amount of power they are supposed to provide.
