If I have 6 solar panels that are all the same, is it better to connect them in series-parallel or parallel-series?

Both setups should have the same Voc, Isc, Vmp, and Imp at the ends that connect to the SCC, right? If so, what are the advantages and disadvantages of connecting them in each of these configurations? How do the electrical properties of the system change when one panel is shaded?

I see a lot of discussion and advice online about series-first vs parallel-first for connecting battery cells or packs, but I can't find anything about series-first vs parallel-first for solar panels.

I would go with the top. Shade is a disaster no matter what. There is no magic wiring configuration that will significantly reduce the issue.

Why? I can see that the wiring is simpler and I'd only need two 3-1 MC4 adapters instead of four, but that doesn't seem like a big reason to not go with the second one if there happens to be some advantage to going with parallel-series.
