JBD SMART BMS SP22S001 is this active or passive balanced? Any reccomendations?

Im currently looking at this BMS for my battery build.
IDK if its an overkill, but i only have a 5KW inverter, so 200A will probably be enough for a 24V battery.

I cant see anywhere if its active of passive balanced, but it simply says "smart" BMS.
I see they have other active BMS units that are lower amperage.
I am using 8x306Ah cells in series.
If this is not active balanced, is there any other JBD offering you can recommend?

anywhere if its active
Passive, this supplier offers an additional active balance module.

I have used this supplier, very fast delivery if use express delivery option

Thanks, interesting to see it can be upgraded by adding a module

OK, so after doing a little more research there is no need for an active balancer unless you are using a bunch of used or mismatched cells?
With a new set of top balanced A grade cells, I take it there is no concern about the cells going significantly out of balance?

These are great questions. It sure seems like in most the videos. I see people at least do a couple tests to each cell with a meter. I was wondering the same thing. Which BMS did you end up buying? 16s I presume?

I would like to know more on the subject too, there appears to be a bit of a shift to active balancers, while not necessary, some I've spoken to argue that they are more efficient with less energy wasted to heat, albeit should be next to nothing with good cells, but over time can prolong the life of your battery as the cells age. Would like some more data.

Passive balancers bleed off high volt cell charging with .30 to 2ish amps.
Energy is wasted to heat.

Active balancers transfer energy from high cells to low cells, i have seen up to 5A capabilities.

I just wish active balancing was incorporated into more bms boards, it just makes more sense, i guess there is an issue with active balance circuitry and it is harder to do.

From what I read, many JK BMS units are active as standard, but with JBD, its an optional module, when I took a look at it, I dont even see how it works, I dont even think it connects to the BMS itself, but rather connects to the batteries as a second unit that runs independently, correct me if im wrong.
