JKBMS Inverter Edition Problems/Issues | No Support / Help to fix major issues. - DO NOT BUY ! Warning (as of Oct.12.2024)

One swallow doesn't make a summer , rephrased: One firmware update doesn't solve all software issues. And we don't even know what it will do yet or what new bugs it might have.

My issue with JK at the moment is trust on so many levels. Trust that they're able to and willing to put out revised hw and fw - over time. And not just each time they feel like it after some pressure. Would love to know what problems they're having that put them in this position.

Reminds me to never buy a promise. I hope I'm wrong.

JK burned us the first time with bad initial and damaging battery settings. Second time they seemed to abandon their customers. You going to trust a third?

I’m still using non-inverter JKs while this played out And think SEPLOS may be the way to go. I really hope they come through for those that purchased the inverter JKs.

Would it be of help if DIYsolarforum sent to Andy a polished, clear and clean list of all reported issues that was collected with this thread that he could pass forward to his JK-contact?
Superb idea! Even better if that person from here would be a moderator or a VIP!

Hate to burst ya'lls bubble but unless they see a drop in sales they aren't updating anything. This is just the China way.
Andy has been one of the professionals who JK always used to rely on for developing their products, so the concept is never new. All that we can do now is hoping that JK are honest, at least!

So, there is a list in post #10 (page 1) that Steve_S have made, last edit Aug8. Might be some additions through out this thread that is not on that list? That list, is it "polished", clear and clean, as it is, to just copy-paste as it is to send to Andy or do we need make any adjustments first?

is there a way to update the SOC with an RS485? i would be happy if i could measure the SOC with the victron shunt and force update the SOC of the pack of the JK BMSs

Just a head up - that latest update V15.23 for my BMS disabled the nice big lcd screen - was forced to downgrade to have it working again.

If Will chose to make a Vid addressing the JK Shenanigans then likely a few other YT Personalities may take notice & chime in as well and GET Traction "maybe" with JK.

And also @Will Prowse , while yers making said VID for OP, there's this Chick. she Ghosted me. WON'T RETURN MY CALLS even I called her Over and Over Shouting INSULTS. no Answer!!!

The biggest bug of them all and the most critical is what I detailed in my own first post on page 3 Post #56, saying that we are a growing group of people who can't update their BMSs at all from firmware version 15.10, and I believe there are other bugs mentioned later on in this thread. At least that list needs a check after adding the bug I described. I guess @Steve_S is the best for this job, but I know he's not okay anymore after what happened between him and the forum owner, so I don't know!

A few years ago my friend was in a CCTV business, he was buying a lot of recorders, and the main thing was that they were waiting at least 3 months for a new FW before they installed a device at customer premises.
so imho here we have same issue - pressure to be on the market, be "innovative" and fast to the customer.

Absolutely blows my mind that people are so anxious to put in a brand new JK firmware version that could end up going poorly. Especially given the firmware history of the inverter line (resetting settings to dangerously high voltage levels, bricking etc).

This is a known bug already which was fixed in version 15.24. And the latest firmware right now is 15.27. You can download it from Andy's Google Drive.

FYI, @ArthurEld.
I was quoting other posts talking about 15.29. I don't even have my inverter BMS up and running yet. Once I do get it going, I will try to stick with known good versions of firmware.

I had some free time lately, so I decided to invest it into a few quick tests on my JK BMS which has the firmware update bug (stuck at firmware 15.10). Here are my two findings, which I posted at "Akkudoktor" forum too:

#1
I installed Linux Ubuntu 24.04 (Kubuntu flavor) on my laptop to exclude driver issues, since Windows is well-known for its driver issues since forever. I used a great app called SerialTool (serialtool.com), but the same bug is still present, even though I tried many times with different scenarios, as always!

#2
Both RS232 and RS485-1 port (leftmost port/right besides CAN port) has no power at all. Although, doing DC electrical tests, there are notes which might be very interesting for some experts:

For RS232:
Tx, Rx, and GND, always have 0 Volt when measuring any pair of them.
But, Tx and NC always give 500 mV

For RS485-1:
A and GND always have 0 Volt
B and GND always have 200 mV
A and B always have 200 mV DC

Seems like they're actually connected to the communication board somehow, but they're never active whatsoever.

daly seems alive and well, half their stuff has never worked
I´d say it is to large extent because Daly makes their bms look sexy af, like Lucy Liu, while the other competitors could be compared to Hubert J. Farnsworth. Or some thing along those lines. One of many good examples in our society when flashy exterior with shit inside is selling better then the other way around.

do you have an oscilloscope? Measuring rs232 or 485 with no transmission is tricky as only static voltage will be shown. With scope and attached device - there is a chance to see if there is a response to incoming signal.
