JuncTek Battery Monitor vs Victron SmartShunt

I saw that a new WIFI coulomb meter has been launched on AliExpress, but it is a completely new set of products.View attachment 240190
Hi, is the display from this KM series device compatible with existing KG and KH units? Can I buy just the display and add wifi functionality to a KH160F shunt and computer?

Can you use the KM display as a second display with KH series and keep the original KH display connected?

No, it is not. KG series has a 4-pin connector whereas KM has a 6-pin display connector.
Wifi functionality is provided by the shunt module, not the display itself.

Ok thanks! The Junctek official store on AliExpress have said around 3 weeks ago there is a new version X display coming, which can connect to the older shunt modules and add Wi-Fi functionality.

I assumed it was the same display which ships with this KM series, but I guess it’s going to be different then.

We will have to wait for Rickey to confirm things.

Yes, but it will take some time, expected by the end of 2024.

So I got the new WiFi version to replace one of my KH-F series BT units. Here are my initial thoughts based on just using it for about an hour.

Pros
Easy to install as it only has the shunt and display vice shunt, com box, display.
The app (iPhone) lets you name devices
App's graphical display looks nice
When first opening the app, you get a "quick view" of the device to see voltage, amps and remaining capacity. It looks like you will be able to see multiple devices on this page.

Cons
I can not the app to connect with the LAN option. BT and WAN work ok
Unless I am missing something, on the graphical display of the app, regardless of charge or discharge, the amps is green. IMO it would be better if it changed to red for discharge.
I could not get the app to connect to my other KH-F BT series unit. On the BT scan screen, the unit ID would pop up for a spit second and then disappear. The other older app works fine. Would be nice to have just one app

The Junce home app works ok with my KH series monitor, so it is supported. Was your trouble caused by simultaneously having the KH app installed and connected to the monitor @Texas-Mark ? If so, use the “disconnect “ option in the KH app then retry in the Junce Home app.

No, the other app was not connected. The HK series unit pops up in the list for a split second but then some other BT devices the app sees pop up and it disappears.

@Rickey - for basic monitoring of a 100ah aux lithium battery in a truck, which is the better option, KM140F? Use case is running a fridge, camp lights, charging devices, etc.

@Sanguine - Does yours Junce home app connect when you select LAN? On mine it will not connect. If I use a different wifi on my same LAN, it immediately tells me I am on the wrong wifi. So the app knows when I am on the correct/incorrect wifi, it just won't connect. Using WAN works fine, just curious why have the LAN option if it doesn't work.

I’m not sure what you mean - I see no LAN option, only Bluetooth. But I am using the app with my KH series monitor, which does not support wifi functionality so I only expect to be connecting to it via Bluetooth.

OK. I thought you had one of the wifi units too. I would never had known about the newer Junce Home app until I got that new wifi unit. Previously I was using the "KH-F" app.

I downloaded Junce home to see what I could see about how it worked, as I was expecting to buy one of the new wifi equipped units. It was a surprise to find it supported the older KH series too.

I mainly continue to use the KH app though, as it’s quicker to get into.

iPhone or Android version? I have an iPhone and that is what won't work for me. Perhaps if it was not for the other BT items popping up, it might. But they are batteries and I can't turn the BT off on them or move them to try. Maybe later I will take the KH unit I replaced and hook it up in the house to see if it can connect there and rule that out.

iPad. Can you not use the iPhone bluetooth menu to forget the problematic devices which are popping up in the Junce Home app?

Those devices are not connected via the iPhone’s BT connection method. Most of them don’t even show up there at all.

So I got another wifi KM-F unit to replace a second KH-F series unit I have. I took the two KH-F units into the house and powered them up away from all of the other BT devices. They both will show up in the Junce Home app, but when I connect, they both give me a "Notice Wrong machine model" error. Not sure what is up with that because they are definitely KH-F units. No a big deal because I won't be using them anyway, I was just checking on that other issue with the device getting bumped off the BT list.

Overall I am very happy with the wifi units. As I noted earlier, they both show up on the "quick view list" so it's easy to see the status of everything at once.

I have one more system with an even older KG-F unit that I will probably replace at some point too.

What's the difference between the KM-F and KH-F series devices? I had been looking at the KM-F for my truck.

KM-F is BT and wifi. KH-F is BT only. If only for a truck, KH-F would probably be fine. However, the KM-F has less parts (just a display and shunt). The HH-F also has another "controller" box.

KM-F it is. Is there an online calculator that helps you determine what size shunt you need?

I have 3 separate batteries (in a same remote space) to monitor over the internet. I have been considering to use KM-Fs because of its wifi capability. To my knowledge, I need a KM-F for each of my batteries.

What hardware and software should I have in the other end of the internet connection?

Does that software enable simultaneous connection to 3 KM-Fs?
