Amateurs Spot New Impact Flash at Jupiter

An amateur astronomer has discovered a possible new impact flash in Jupiter's equatorial region. Observers may yet see the dark impact scar.

Looks like the impact flash is about a quarter the diameter of the earth (just a rough guess on my part as the Earth is about the size of the great red spot).

something large enough to make an impact flash that is roughly 25% the size of the earth.... makes me wonder when our extinction event is going to happen.

granted most of the available debris from the solar systems initial formation and planet building stages are either now planets or they are trapped in the asteroid belt... but obviously some of them occasionally wander... that or they are comet like and running a highly elliptical path as a comet and just waiting for the correct alignment to brain us.

sometimes I wonder if religion is/was not simply an idiots description of a near extinction event where the planets population was wiped down to small pockets of survivors and the bible is simply an idiots guide to that event and the rebuilding of the population.
