Learnings from a Long run Chargeverter/Generator Test

So it has been cloudy for a few days so I did a full chargerverter/generator test.

Key learnings were I cannot run the chargerverter at 80A as the generator becomes unstable and the CV backs off. The generator is alleged to be 5500w and 80A is less than 4500. I also learned I need a new breaker for the inverter (at 75A the gen/cv is stable but the breaker on one let of the gen tripped with what should be about 18A sustained for a 25A rated breaker with <75F ambient temperature in the shade).

The first time I tested this generator under load I learned my generator was DBI (designed by an Idiot) because they stupidly put the outlet/breaker panel on the side with the muffler/exhaust where the breakers were unprotected and less than 6 inches from the hot muffler and trip with even reasonable outside temps. The higher temps for the breakers may be what killed them or they may simple be old.

So it is always important to test whatever you have simply because you can never assume it was well engineered from the start and/or that everything is working exactly right.

NONE of the generators can be run at their max listed output from the manufacturer.
So take those numbers in an ad with a huge spoon of salt ^^

I shoot for 80% of the rating on all three of my generators.
Seems to work well.
