Lengthening the solar wire coming from the panel junction box, MC4 vs Butt Connector

Hi All;

I have a situation where I need to lengthen the solar wire coming from the panel junction box of a SunPower 50 watt flexible solar panel.
Normally, I would just use an MC4 connector and be done.
However, that solution is not appropriate for this situation.

Question
I am wondering if using an electrical butt connector will decrease the flow.
Is an MC4 connector any more efficient than a simple butt connector?
I am aware that the MC4 is weather-resistant and if I used a butt connector I could make it weather-resistant.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thank You!

If it's crimped properly and is rated for the current it will be fine. Make sure the voltage rating of the insulation is up to the job. When it comes to waterproofing you definitely want to get that right. DC and moisture = corrosion.

Regarding the waterproofing,

Do you think shrinkwrap tubing (double it up) would be sufficient?
