Not an expert but this seemed like the best place for a simple question that an expert could answer with the info I provide hopefully...
then call me a sketchy newbie shmuck.
I was given a LG Resu 10 with a sunny boy 3.8. I didn't ever install them. Long story short, I opened the battery to see what was inside.

It had:
SIX 24v lithium batteries connected in series.
DC/DC converter I don't use...if anyone one needs or could use.IMG_3162.jpgIMG_3120.jpgIMG_0122.jpg

One battery was bulging I set aside....how do I dispose of it??
no one will take it and a battery bag for recycling is really expensive.

I took FOUR of them and made battery bank by pairing them in series then parallel for 48v and have them connected to a POWMR 5k. they are doing good running all my appliances and last quite sometime after dark even with washer dryer refrigerators etc.

I have ONE in my studio with 24 inverter and controller doing good.

main question
what type of BMS do I get for the 48v battery bank and what seperate BMS for the individual 24v battery
kept it simple.

You'll definitely want a bms, with some of the cells already having gone south. And in the picture, the cells still in use are also bulging out, so I'd be keeping a real close eye on them, and don't expect them to last long.

Someone might want that DCDC eventually, especially if the CAN communication gets figured out.

Got a smoke alarm in that location, or it's in a shed?

too late I should have blogged a year ago
it went down
Ive been using everything fine for about a year...was shopping for BMS and hadn't purchased them yet. I think I should've bought the 7s 24v...still not sure

I had just gotten home and my music studio was locked. and I couldn't find the key. I usually go right in when I get home but it was locked. I went into my house to look for keys. 20 minutes went by I look out my window and see smoke from the studio!

Long story short I learned my lesson or lessons! panic as I look for bolt cutters and hose running around hose gets caught on something etc...shit show ! Sad day ,...it just happened on the 18th of Jan....
got bolt off took in smoke as I tried two fire extinguishers and hose but was over power by a couple of minor explosions of whatever I had in there mainly music equipment computer sound systems amps....
got too hot for my hose fire department showed up
big mess huge loss!

I disconnected the four that go to my house right away ... could have been worse. only two were in my studio and four at the house....

nonetheless I am rewiring everything and double checking my work but it was one of the batteries in not so good of shape in studio that went .... none of the ones in the photo

moving on and getting batteries that are already set up with communication...
I've just been trying to budget so much it was helping a great deal until this set back that will be difficult to recover from...

suggestions on quality batteries with BMS I was going to try the EG4...are the refurbished ones any good?? I have a 6000xp and a PowMr 5000w need battery for the PowMr..

how much would someone pay for the DC/DC converter hopefully that can pay for a new battery or two

Yeah^^^, sorry for your losses, at least nobody was hurt and you didn't lose the house!

Running well-used NMC/Li-ion with no BMS was never going to end well, and having that chemistry indoors is a definite no-no.

Did you go to the hospital? Getting a lung full of that smoke is bad news!

Any insurance cover?
