Long term experience with inverter?

Any new model inverter from SMA remains the same MSRP for life, although inflation reduces the cost in real dollars. Street price declines.
New models come out at lower price per watt, especially with the switch to transformerless design.

My original Sunny Boy inverters were MSRP $1/watt and I paid $0.80
Recent transformerless models I see for around $0.25/W. They offer 120V 2kW batteryless backup during grid failures.

Sunny Island (48V battery) MSRP is $1/watt, same as when it came out 12 or more years ago. Street price $0.75

Sunny Boy Storage (400V battery, transformerless) is available for about $0.40/W. It is 220/240V so to get 120V needs a transformer. Transfer switch for grid backup is also an external add-on. It is basically a PowerWall. It also offers 120V 2kW battery-only backup during grid failures.

Like Tesla Powerwall, Sunny Boy Storage doesn't have much surge capability.

The newer products probably can make a lower cost package, at least for some markets. The add-on Automatic Backup Unit with transformer and transfer switch costs as much as Sunny Boy Storage, so there goes any savings.

The 400V batteries are also expensive.

That's why I've been happy finding new old stock, still in the box, for transformer type Sunny Island and Sunny Boy.
