Gosh, where do I start?
I’ve been lurking here on the forum and using it as a resource for a couple of years now. My solar journey started in 2009. A half mile block of homes where I lived had lost power, so I pulled out my generator and fired it up. After a couple of hours, and in the dark, I decided to kill the generator and go get something to eat. As I drove through the neighborhood, it was eerily silent! Come to find out, I was the only one that had a generator. Then it dawned on me, if we had an extended power outage, EVERYONE in the neighborhood would know that I had power because of how loud the generator was. So, I started looking into solar as an alternative.
I SLOWLY started acquiring more and more solar components as the years went by. After covid, I became more focused and built my first lithium battery with raw cells in 2021. I utilized 76 of the SPIM08HP cells in 19s4p configuration! A year later in 2022 I bought 3 kits from Battery Hookup to put together a 300 amp/hr 12v lithium battery.
So now I’ve got my workshop/shed 100% off grid. There are 1,700 watts of solar, my 300 amp/hr battery bank, an EPEVER Tracer MPPT charge controller, and 2 off brand 2k watt power inverters.
In the future, I plan on adding a split phase 240v power inverter along with a larger battery bank with higher voltage in order to run our water well.
So in the meantime I’m here, and I’m about to make another post in a different subsection(once I figure out where) about a battery that I bought used in 2009! Come to find out after contacting Hawker, this AGM battery was built in 2002, and it is still working! That’s right, this AGM battery is 22 years old and is still holding a charge and is still in use! But the story on that will be posted in the other forum!
