Next up is the BMS plate. I think they sent me a 304 compression plate for my 280 case and no actual BMS plate.

This longer plate was solo in a large box (former 4 cell box) nothing else in it. The compression plate that came with the box has 4 stand offs but don’t match anything provided.

The stand offs don’t match my jk 8S 200a almost seems like it’s for the inverter BMS again an extra 1/2” too long to fit into this case. I can’t see anyway it will work. Hmmm.

The second compression plate is 1/2” longer and 1” shorter.

Worse case I can zip tie the BMS. But I’m more curious which compression plate this is for. As it’s just a hair off this 280k plate.

Btw the case touch up paint is now drying, only had a partial can of rustolem gloss black engine paint so it should be good up to 500f, lol

The single box of cells I opened up have a QR code dated Jan 26th 2024, can’t complain with that.

You are supposed to double side tape your bms to a yellow insulator board that you might have found on those 4 screw standoffs.

I'm not kidding. I saw a video on jk bms with this case. I bought the same one.

Then why package a separate plate in a separate box that can’t fit in the battery box?

The only plastic sheets I saw were for cell seporators, is this BMS mounting sheet the same thickness as the cell separators?

I have no problem fabbing up my own wooden plate. Also the center ridge of the comepression plate is proud of those threaded stand offs by 1/4 to 3/8th

I guess I got lucky. Of course, just ordering the same cases as @Steve_S probably made it easy for me. He had to deal with all the details so it has been pretty smooth for me (thanks Steve)!

Which case and which BMS?

Mine is 8s with JK 200a, I asked for the exact same as what Steve ordered, so kinda curious what he received with his 8s kits.

There is a massive yellow square that’s almost the size of the lid, not sure if that’s for a top cover over the BMS lead tray.

WTF is this for? I had no clue when I found it.

Also, They only gave me 4 of the actual cell separators. The listing I purchased had 20 specified.

I did watch it quickly, first time I thought he just had to install stand offs for his BMS on a plate provided. And I wasn’t sure how much was different on the 16s vs 8s

Rewatching it makes sense now he made the whole plate from scratch.

I think I have some 1/8” aluminum sheet stock left over that I can work with, that or 1/2” Baltic birch plywood scraps that will work.

Never throw away scraps!!!

As for that large sheet I’m guessing it’s more for cell terminal protection when you lift the lid off than anything

Yep, I had other mods that were required I didn't show. One was the bars to hold the balance leads. I had wired up the box for the house but used the box in this video for wiring it up. I took those bars down to the house for that box. I then proceeded to install the bars from the other box on the box in the video. To my surprise, these were much longer and when I assemble the house box, I'll probably have to add an extra layer of poron.

Quality control on tolerances is just a little slack by over 1/4".

I think I have some 1/8” aluminum sheet stock left over that I can work with, that or 1/2” Baltic birch plywood scraps that will work.

I looked around for some sheet aluminum but only had larger sheets I didn't want to cut up. I'm always building/fabricating something so I keep plenty of smaller size materials on hand.

I used the fiber board supplied. It has a label on it. It works and is simple.
Zwy made a subplate to hold the BMS and class T fuse. That sounds much nicer.
If Amy makes subplates like that, I'd buy them. I suggested that Amy add a class T fuse to the 48V boxes.

For my first case I used the original JK Bms. I then drilled a plate of polycarbonate and screwed it into the four holes on the compression plate. I then attached high end velcro from McMaster Carr and velcro attached my Bms to the polycarbonate sheet.

My new ones will use the case plate designed by Steve and uses the newest Bms

not me, I didn't design anything. My inputs have been only to help improve things for us DIY folk is all. Given that others sell similar for far more (seen some up to 700 USD (ohh lordie), not a bad deal.

Regardless of BMS used, you want to allow air around them, don't block off one side (like screwing a BMS to a solid backing), Have offsets &/OR holes behind it. Most use their casings/coverings as heatsinks.

Unless you have a fan. With a fan, less is more so-to-speak.

Update from Amy, the second compression plate what’s shipped as scrap weight. Apparently they needed a few extra KG to cross 100, at 101kg there was a price brake in shipping, so they saved me some money with sending me scraps. We sorted out there is no BMS plate to be provided which I leaned already here.

As for the rust, this is being shared with the vendor and a discount is offered on my next order . . . . Which isn’t necessary as it took 10 min to clean up, but mighty tempting to think about my next build.

I created a BMS plate from a 1/8” sheet of aluminum I had left over, I cut it wide enough to prove location for a class T if I wanted down the line.

I just ordered two of the 48v LF280k boxes with single 5/16 terminals, casters, and the JK Inverter BMS from Amy based on this thread. So thank you all!!

Also ordered a couple of plastic cases they make that should fit 24v 105ah builds with the JK 2A BMS.

Total with shipping came out to about $1,200.

I already have the cells except I am waiting on resolution from 18650batterystore regarding some bent terminals on four of the 280ah cells (they were in the same box).
