Making best use of buck/boost DC/DC converters

i see, i've only tested dropping from 11V-13V to 5.2V since that will be my main use (0.2 is still within USB spec, but compensates for drop under load). Maybe i should get a laser temperature reader since the chip on the HW613 is hard to measure with other devices.

I am just using a medical pyrometer, that has an additional range 20..120°C.
It was damned cheap and is pretty accurate.

so far i'm using the magic finger test: if it's hot, it's about 50c or under, if it burns, it's over 60c. But looking at these might just make me upgrade.
