I am presently preparing to purchase an Elco 50 horsepower equivalent outboard motor. What would be the best battery bank I should use. My budget for batteries is around $8,000. Wanting to roof over the 20-foot by 8 foot pontoon with solar. Any ideas about series, parallel or series-parallel circuits, or brands of batteries and panels will be greatly appreciated.

I am confused, why would I need an inverter? the motor is a 96 volt D.C.

You lost me at inverter. There's a forum specifically for Marine. If it was me I click through through it and then I'd ask specific questions. General questions about a topic that not many people here have interest in or knowledge of won't get many responses.

Just a guess but I bet 98% of the posts on this forum are for land based systems that run at 48v or less.
