Material for very thin compression end plates?

I need to figure out what material to use for some very thin compression end plates. I'll be compressing 4 cells. The end plates need to be 3mm thick each or thinner to fit the space. I'm figuring some type of metal. Any suggestions of metal or other material that would hold its form when compressing with 4 to 6 threaded rods while being that thin? I do have space for the nuts on the threaded rods, so that will not be an issue.

No, you'd be better off with Garolite FR4 or G10 epoxy glass laminate material or something similar. Super strong, lightweight, flame retardant, and insulating, however it is not ductile like aluminum or steel.

If you want the strongest lightweight stuff, it is Carbon Epoxy laminates. But more expensive. Just be aware that carbon is conductive, so these are not insulating.

If you want metal, 7075 Aluminum is the strongest aluminum, steel off course will be stronger but much heavier, and lastly Titanium is the best but super expensive.

That is pretty thin material, but it depends on the span and the tensile load you will be putting on those 6 threaded rods. You'd be surprised though with the composite materials.

Check out sendcutsend if you haven't already - they cut steel and titanium (& FR4 Garolite for that matter).
