Oops! Posted it in my solar show ‘n tell. Basically, Nope. I have cooler ducting when it’s running though!!
Crack it open and see if the temp probe wire is interfering with it. It’s a known issue.I have a 8k u model and after two years the fan has started to make noise, a real annoying one.
Not really sure that’s an accurate number - mine runs the full 1500+ watts into my ductwork, but I’m sure it assumes it needs cooling 100% of the time.
Power consumption reports: 280-330 watts at a steady state when keeping a room cool. One reviewer said his watt meter registered 200 watts but that sounds low. Smaller room maybe. 2 others state 280-320 watts and 280-330 watts.
Whats the savings been on your power bill?We have 3 of these Duos we got at a retail return auction. I had no idea that these would end up being my primary cooling system for the first floor of our home, instead of our 3.5 ton AC unit. I connected these to a 6500EX, my batteries, and some panels I set out in the yard.

Significant, though I can't easily quantify it.Whats the savings been on your power bill?
Significant, though I can't easily quantify it.
Last year during this time we had a single speed pool pump, and kept our entire house at ~77 degrees the entire month using 2 3.5 ton AC units for a 3300 sq ft house. Our power bill was about $542 in the hottest month of LV summer heat last year.
This year, we rarely run either 3.5 ton unit. We've allowed our upstairs to warm up to over 95 degrees during the day, and we spend our days downstairs where it's cooler due to our little off grid setup with the Mideas. Our bedroom is upstairs, and when we go to bed, we fire up 2 Midea u shaped inverter window ACs, one 10k and one 8k (it's a large area) that runs on energy from the utility. We also have a variable speed pool pump now.
So, overall, we've been more disciplined about not wasting energy cooling the entire home, and upgraded to a more efficient pool pump We've easily cut usage from the utility by 60-70%. Our daily usage was around $17.45 a day, and this year it's right around $6-$7 a day.
Hello LVQuack, I want to install one of these in my van build. Is there a way to permanently install new ducting to replace the supplied flexible one? This would eliminate most of the issues I read about these units. We have 3 of these Duos we got at a retail return auction. I had no idea that these would end up being my primary cooling system for the first floor of our home, instead of our 3.5 ton AC unit. I connected these to a 6500EX, my batteries, and some panels I set out in the yard. They work well, and we enjoy the control the app gives us.
I'd rate them a 7.5/10, with the biggest issue being the hoses. I'm not sure what they can do to improve the design, but it limits placement of the unit. For example, I have this unit connected to a slider window, and can turn it about 45 degrees. Doing this puts a little twisting strain on the hose so I didn't want to force it too much, but there's just not enough flexibility in the hose for my taste. That's really my only complaint.
