Weird, it won't link.
But it's still there.

I have a solution and I'm going to make it very clear. Will be home soon to implement. I think everyone will like it.
There is a fundamental flaw in this way of thinking. You will never make everyone happy. You don't need further evidence than the fact that the forum offers a way to "follow" users, and a way to "ignore" users. Look at the number of people who "follow" James Showalter, just to shitpost on every thread he's involved in, when they could quite simply and literally "ignore" him with exactly the same level of effort. (And I'd argue that it'd be LESS effort.. since taking the time to look at his posts AND write responses is more effort than not seeing the post at all.). But, I digress. There are several people on this forum who have their opinions, and apparently nothing that is done or said will ever change their minds.

And yes very good point. I agree

Personally, I don't follow anyone in the forum.
But I do see everything. So you could say that I follow everyone.
Which is why I am (probably) one of the top reporter's of spam, advertising, and promotional threads.
When I seen a thread titled prices increasing next month.
I assumed that it might be some new information regarding the tariffs.
Only to find out that it was just James and his usual shilling.
I click on new threads, according to their titles. And if it's something that might interest me. I don't even look at who posted it. That doesn't matter, at that time.

I absolutely agree and appreciate the reporting. It helps run everything.

Yes it was shilling and promotion and against the rules. But then I saw the upvotes and responses and figured we need a solution for this.

You're right too, it should never ever be in general discussion or our technical forums. But also, we need a place to direct these businesses. I even want the YouTubers to have a place to post their videos. Still working on that now. But it needs to be completely separate.

What I also realize is if companies cant post here, or don't feel welcome they make Facebook groups where they can censor and say whatever they want. I need to always find a way for everyone to feel included here.

The new section has new rules. Self promotion, posting links, promoting deals and more, will be allowed. But only in this section.

Rules for News and Promotion:
  • If you are a company, you are not allowed to generate leads by messaging individual members. Private messages will be reported, and your profile will be deleted, and your company will be banned from the forum.
  • Everyone is allowed to post links to a product, but affiliate or tracking links are not allowed.
  • If you are employed or contracted by a company, you must state your corporate affiliation in your username or subtitle.
  • Deals and promotions are only allowed in this section, and no other.
If you are a company, read below:
  • You will be challenged by the members.
  • If you post something illogical or ignorant, your business will lose credibility. Fast.
  • You may think that this section is a free way to advertise and promote your business. It is possible, but it is difficult.
If you are a member, read below:
  • If you wish to call out a company, have your evidence ready. If you are found to be lying, the company may press charges against you.
  • Sometimes it is best to focus on listening and learning. Employees from some of these companies are incredibly informed. Proceed with caution.
  • Do not trust everything you read from "senior" members (including me). Do your own testing and research. Just because another member has a lot of posts does not mean that they are correct.

So what about members that have a "material connection" to companies? Are they still allowed to prowl/promote in the old section?
How about companies that customer service actions from companies? Is this considered promotional?

I really don't understand why @robby doesn't unfollow James. That has confused me to no end.
Why do you think I follow James? You can see my Profile, so you know that I don't follow him and never have.
James is following me. I saw that Pop up about a year ago.

Nope not at all. No promotion, links, deals, prices etc. but they can absolutely post and respond to members like before. That's not changing at all. If you want to tag a company profile for help, go for it.

I mean ignore him. You don't seem to like EG4 but you're always in every thread about them.

I am in less than 30% of the threads about him and I typically only join in when he is trying to shaft a customer on warranty service. As I stated before I have no problem with EG4 products, what I don't like is their customer service.
It's horrible and you know that!

Markus is, not James. AFAIK, the "following" info is public on your "About" page.
Whats the difference?
James has one of his employees following me. I don't follow anyone at EG4.

I'm just pointing out that if James was following you at one point, he isn't any longer.
Got you.
If one of his employees is following me then it’s the same thing as James following me. He pays them and they report to him. I am pretty sure if I said that James was a Con artist that Markus would inform him within minutes.

Not a complaint per se , but I've had posts disappear long ago, not recent, which caused me to not read/post for years (may even have been another ID?). When the forum started, there was a sense it would largely be (relatively) free speech oriented, so it rubbed me the wrong way when my posts suddenly disappeared with no notice. Flash forward today, and at least we are told publicly off topic posts are moved, referred and/or deleted, but is the offending poster notified of any action on his/her post by staff/mods?

Yeah it's largely free speech unless it's off topic. That's what chit chat section is for. You would love it. As long as you don't post something illegal, you're good. But when it comes to the solar discussion, we enforce it. Not free speech.

When did you have posts deleted? We changed servers multiple times and at one point in the first few months, start over on a new database. So all of those posts were gone. That was many years ago. We don't delete anything unless it breaks a rule. You'll see less censorship here than Twitter or any other platform.
