I am an off-grid system that is currently powered by 8 Torjan T105 6v batteries (48 volts). I just got 8 12v Deka Unigy AGM batteries (free). I was going to create 2 strings of the AGM batteries so each string is 48V, then can I connect them in parallel to the T105 batteries?

Can you? sure. Is it "best practices?" Nope.

Review Victron's Wiring Unlimited on the proper way to configure a battery bank.

Make sure the Dekas are fully charged individually as 12V before putting them in series. It's critical that they all be top balanced with each other.

Once installed, under typical conditions, use a DC clamp ammeter to check the amperage through each battery string and confirm it's within the batteries' ratings.
