My growatt battery won’t communicate with my growatt inverter.

I’ve been battling this for a week now.
Battery arrives needing a wake up signal from PCS.
Okay. I hook everything up properly.
Nothing.
I’m checking my 240v ac input. Looks great.
I’m checking dc voltage at battery terminals on inverter. 1.4-1.6vdc.
Weird right?
I get to thinking how my mother would wake me up as a child. She shook me gently and I was awake.
Long story short.
It took giving the battery a very small shake to get it to “wake up”…no good. I do not like that at all.
I just want to use this battery and see what it can do.
It won’t let me communicate.
I didn’t get a manual with this thing which is stressful because I like to have a paper copy manual in front of my eyes.
So far it’s awesome at giving me stress.
I have one battery. (5kwh)
I have one 240v ac input.
Growatt axe 5.0l-c1 battery is hooked up to growatt 6kw split phase inverter.

When inverter is in default mode on initial start up I can charge my battery because there’s no bms communication.
Default mode is set for an agm battery.
Go to setting 05
Select LI 05
Then I was told to select protocol option L01-51
Nothing.
Same fault code 20.
Inverter eventually turns off after a minute or two.

my connections are solid.
Something is missing here.

This is the default setting for an agm battery. Which I do not have.
This shows me the inverters charger works and I can provide output.
As soon as I switch the settings to LI in setting#5 I get the red light and annoying beep.

I don't have this particular equipment, but many years of "persuading" gear to communicate.

Is the cable "ended" (does it need to be the right way round)?

Check, check, check you are in the correct ports, have a coffee and check again.

Are you guys setting the Protocol to 1 after selecting Program 51?

.pdf manuals attached, say very little, in theory it should "just work"

So protocol should be set to 51 opposed to just 1. Manual doesn’t state this but that’s the only way to communicate. It works

The port labeled PCS on the battery is your input for the Ethernet style cable the other end goes to the port labeled BMS on your inverter.
This is also what you would use to wake the battery if your battery is stuck in protective mode.

This did happen to me. I did a shutdown of all the system. Also took off the power plug of the battery for a few minutes did the restart of the system and verified again the settings and changed the default protocol of 52 to 51. worked perfect after.
