Necessary to cover terminals inside a box?

I built a battery box and it has a cover. Is it necessary to cover the inside of these terminals ?

It could not hurt to put a piece of plexiglass or a thin see through cutting board over the top of that. The key risk is dropping a tool on it and shorting out the terminals; which wouldn't happen when the box is closed, but could happen once the box is open. A simple shield would be a belt and suspenders approach. . . .

And consider shrink wrap on the busbars between terminals for when your working in the box.

That’s a lot of surface area to drop stuff across.
